Re: Finally Landed in B'lore with my Airgun

Post by camerags » Tue Nov 21, 2006 12:16 pm

I got mobbed by three customs officers at Chennai for carrying some 5 tins of .22 pellets after the tins showed up when the xray-ed my suitcase. After an hour and much debating, a lady customs officer announced that these were only pellets and not 'bullets' and I could go on my way. In this one hour, the men in white made me look like a terrorist to everyone who were watching. Since that day, I have not brought back anything that was airgun related. I travel often and the name of the game is to leave the airport and head for home in the shortest possible time.

Congratulations to Ranjeet and his new 97K

Next time accidentally carry more Black Label than the quota amount and watch how soon you make friends and influence people. ;-).

Camerags,

(With my indiscretion excused  ) since the precedent was set, couldn't you have tried to bring in the pellets next time also ? It appears that you have taken the incident as a personal affront !

I went through the mill in 1984-brought my pistol thru Madras a couple of days after blue star! Thats why I love Mad magazine and 'Great moments in wrong timing'
I was made to sit in the customs hall for 4 hrs and then got hit for 180% duty
No, they didnt ask me wierdo questions, just wanted my money.
If it opens up I'll definitely do it again!

Well, Denzil, If only it was so easy to buy an good quality air gun, you wouldn't see my post in the first place..

However if you really interested in an imported Airgun and can go with a Diana 52 /54, I think you should try a gun shop in bangalore.

I have seen a 52 in .22 cal in Bangalore, the asking price was about 30-40K.

Or try the Postal route, all you need is a rifle shooting membership and you would get it, would cost the same.. I would suggest that you go to a gunshop in bangalore, take someone who knows about buying an airgun and pick up one, would save you the trouble running around postal depts.

Well done Ranjeet.

Keep stocking up on the airguns, pellets, etc.

Your only bad buy is that scope. It may not last long if you put the more powerful spring. Do you have a rimfire at home you can mount it on?

What is that spray can for?
