It's quite generous of you to carry an extra rod along! :) I do hope you are not overly inconveniencing yourself on my account...

Cheers!

Not at all. It's a telescopic rod, so will slip into the duffel bag.

penpusher,

Further to my post on page two, whilst it's difficult to get decent tackle here, importing it is not a headache. It is expensive though but worth it if you ask me.

I thought Inder was returning end Feb, so ordered some tackle for the Feb 2007 Anglo-Indian expedition to the Cauvery.

In the past I have sent tackle to friends who have brought it over but since I did not know of anyone coming over sooner, I had it shipped to me. I was expecting the usual Postal Customs run around but since I had paid for air delivery rather than surface mail (very slow), UPS brought the package to my door.

They charged me eighty odd Rupees as a handling fee plus the duty and that was that. No running around involved because they clear it themselves. Perhaps, those interested in importing airguns should also consider a courier rather than the post office.

Herewith the tracking details to give you an idea of the time involved.

All the best guys wish I was at Chandigarh, my advise try Shatabdi train. Less stress ful if some one can pick you up at the station. If you are driving stop and have food at Haveli near Karnal.

BTW Fishing is banned at Ropar head works and there was a scathing article in Tribune against Governoris fishing jaunts, I dont have the link.
All the best.

Asif,

Either the 28th or 29th. I leave the dates to you and Abhijeet. I would prefer the 29th if possible but will also make it on the 28th if need be.

We can go to Chandigarh if penpusher is free to join us and can let us know if fishing will still be permitted at that time of year. Failing which we could go to the places you and Dev intend recce'ing this weekend.

Last resort, we can go to Old Delhi for sheekh kababs and firni - haven't done that since I left Delhi in 1977. Much as I would love to that, I'd rather go fishing.

Navdeep, the only problem with trains is that they get delayed due to fog.

I recall having a four hour wait in 2003 when I had to take an early morning train from Delhi to Ajmer.
If you are driving stop and have food at Haveli near Karnal.

Dang it forgot about the SMOG or FOG in winter. Thats more the reason for me to be on Train becoz highways aren’t that much better off. At least per my experience 8 hours from Delhi airport to Chandigarh, 4 hours from Ludhiana to Chandigarh, its scary and ridiculous ..then what do I know about rally driving ..
Here is an anctedote a doctor I know here was treating a realtor billionaire from UK. The said person drove to Mohali for survey his remark " suicidal highway" that ride was enough for him to learn chinese and invest with red dragon.
All the best

Really want to meet you and the rest of the crew and sit down and chat.If you are coming to Chandigarh,I think I can delay things a bit so that we can get together.

How about kebabs with fishing? Asif can pick up some melt in your mouth kebabs from kareems sector 18 noida and carry a camping stove and voila. Since I may not be around I can always stir things up... ;-)

LOL I never really looked at it that way! BTW - Asif & Dev, I might be planning an excursion to Hisar end-Nov/ early Dec... if you guys are interested PM/ call me and will adjust the dates accordingly.

penpusher, fresh snowfall in the Simla area is a bit of a hit and miss these days... If you are willing to go 3 hours further North, Narkanda might be a better bet - much more peaceful too! Hope you get lucky :)

Cheers!

penpusher,

I will be arriving in Delhi on 27th evening, I'm afraid and will be pretty knackered to do any socialising that evening.

28th or 29th are the dates being proposed for an outing - either to Chandigarh or one of the spots Asif and Dev are to recce. I leave it to the Delhi boys to decide.

Dev, Asif had some new lures for you but now.... I do agree with you though - I already got the lures.

Will do the recce definately this weekend. Will also try out your lures then. The GOOD Doc is hatching a plot to sneak us into the trade for the China pavillion. Bet you know why ;-).
