Hi Harinder,
Can you pls throw some light on a few queries I had:
1) Are you a member of any shooting club or is it for your safety?
2) What was the reason you cited for bearing the fire arm?
3) What are the typical questions that the authorities ask during the interview?
Thanks in anticipation of your reply.
Cheers,
Rup

Dear IFG-ians,
I am about to apply for a licence which would be the next week. I have voted accordingly. I just had a question as to how critical is it to join a shooting club to make one's case stronger in acquiring a licence? my comrades would have seen threads from me earlier too on application queries, but my nature of job was such that I got transfered to 2 cities in a span of 12 months & am currently in Mumbai. Finally have got all my documents in place (except residence proof) since that is registered in Chennai.
My motive is purely owning a handgun for self protection & if I get lucky to own 3 NPB.
AMK, any tips pls?
Cheers,
Rup

Re: Have you ever applied for an Arms License?
What's your reasoning for self protection, have you received threats, do you handle/transport large amounts of cash or valuable items? I think it's become a lot more difficult thanks to Qasab and his mates.
I have heard from reliable & influential sources that unless your reason is one of the above or you pull some strings, your application will almost certainly be rejected under the protection category. And if you're rejected once you're almost assured to be never approved again except through the the Home Ministry or Court.

None of the above...m just being proactive & safe-guarding my family & self for any future eventualities.
I know friend, that's not a reason good enough esp in a country wherein laws are frivillous & rigid.
And I have no strings to pull either. So the only route left is Sporting? Was going on Tuesday for applying, but now I need to hold back & rethink on my approach.
Cheers,
Rup

i think as far as arms licence is considered, you will practically get only one chance---so,give your best shot.

Yes please do not apply, especially in this environment. Join the range at Worli, get to know some older members there and then apply (a wait of 2 to 3 months), they will be able to guide you much better.shadow";p="63439 wrote:None of the above...m just being proactive & safe-guarding my family & self for any future eventualities.

Re: Have you ever applied for an Arms License?
Hi
Rup you asked a few questions,The answer is
I am not a member of any shooting club or association but soon i will be applying for membership of NRAI.
I got a license as i had applied for my security of my factory .I had completed all the formalities with details .My father had three weapons before he died, unfortunately i had to sell them all after his death .I had attached photo copies of the license to prove that arms had been always the part of my family for the past 50 years . I had a security camera ,security guard & a Dog to prove that i need security.
The main thing of successfully getting a license is to get the ASI to be fully satisfied & he completes all the formalities .He interviewed my wife & my neighbors If i was short tempered? . He was satisfied with all the documents provided .The lady IPS officer who interviewed me in defense colony asked all the things that i had already told the ASI, she just wanted to be sure .
cheers

Re: Have you ever applied for an Arms License?
Hi,
I enquired from the collectorate in December of 2007 about the residence proofs needed to be submitted alongwith the application form of NPB Relover/Pistol for the purpose of protection, The arms clerk mentioned telephone bill, electricity bill or the house ownership proof from the tehsil. Didn't had any of these as everything is in my Dad's name and thus the arms clerk at the collectorate refused to accept my application.
I asked my local MLAs help and he sent one of his men with me who used a copy of my life insurance policy as residence proof and this time the clerk happily accepted the application from him. I collected the apllication copy from the collectorate after about a week and took it to the local Police station for verification only to be told that they do not accept application like this anymore and it needs to be sent through post from the collectorate.
Returned the application to Arms clerk who was not interested in posting it till the time i bribe him, it took me 4 months of regular visits to him to get the application posted to PS without bribing him. after about a week's time of postage i visited PS and was told to go to the Plice Chowki to get the application verified, since that time it has been 10 months of visits to Police Chowki to get the application moving but the contabulary there won't do it unless and until their pockets are warmed. To furthur compound the matter the place of my birht is different from the city where i was brought up and completed my education, I tried explaning to cops that i was born in a different city as my maternal grandparents reside there but they are in no mood to listen, until and unless i pay up.
I tried raising these issues with a high ranking officer of the district only to be chided for not paying up thereby lengthing the process and why i chose to write the original place of my birth when as per that officer the place of birth is where you live.
I do not know what to do now, i thought of approaching the courts but quite a few people told me that in that case the collectorate might make up an excuse as to why licence cannot be granted to you.
Dear IFGians i need your advice as to how i should proceed now.

Re: Have you ever applied for an Arms License?
hello pran,
wait till the parliament election exercise is over. No new licences would be issued during this period, if you persist in your efforts the licencing authorities will take it as an excuse to reject your application and you will have to through it again. In TN courts have helped many people in obtainig a licence- a recent case wherein an MLA of the opposition party was given a licence after the high court directed the police commissioner of chennai to issue him a hand gun licence.
I am now digressing from the subject. i was asked by the friendly neighbourhood police to depsit my weapon(s) immediately at the station to be retrieved after the results are announced. how is the situation elsewhere.
