I need some quotes from an Indian citizen who supports gun rights. I need to know how difficult it is for the average citizen to obtain a gun in India and why you think the attacks in Mumbai might have been prevented if the citizens had the right to bear arms.

Ms. Burrows, it shall be a distinct pleasure but I feel the credit goes to Mr. Abhijeet Singh, Mr. Sindhu and Mr. Mack the knife; they are the ones who woke up first and brought us (the rest of the IFG-ans) out from our sleep-sepulchre. But yes, I am more than eager to voice my opinions if you provide an outlet.

But being an IFG-an, I would like to put forth my thoughts as well.

1. How difficult is it for the average citizen to obtain a gun in India?

Ans. One of the IFG-ans asked a bureaucrat about getting him a gun license, to which he responded - "Gun License? Do you want the local goons to come and invade your house?" That simplified, it is the local police station who shall be informing them and they shall rob it fatten their arsenals. If you want, I can mail you my conversations with him.

If you are aware of it, Sara, West Bengal is under communist rule. That alone is sufficient to understand how tough it is for the common people to obtain a gun license. We, the business owners (irrespective of small or medium or big) are bourgeoisie in their eyes and the government follows exactly what V.I. Lenin had commented previously on gun ownership. But more than that, it is the price of the guns. An average person earns 15K INR a month; unless you have a passion for it, nobody shall shell out a cheap-looking IOF .32 revolver for a whopping 75K.

2. How might the attacks in Mumbai have been prevented if the citizens had the right to bear arms?

The terrorists could find a safe abode inside the hotel since they were aware that none of the boarders possess arms; had they known, they would have thought many times before getting in. Of course, they had automatic weapons but even if 50% of the boarders had a revolver on them, that would have been at least 400 bullets fired at them at once, maybe, every two minutes? That's terrifying, even to hardcore terrorists. A person cannot defend his front and his back at the same time and they had the Police firing at them as well.



I request one thing, Sara; let the world know how we, the responsible and level-headed Indians are denied of gun ownership simply because the Govt. wants to save its skin; it has done so many wrongs till now that they are afraid to make people powerful lest they want to take the Govt. down by force - the same way it takes down the common people.
