Skeet & Trap Nationals 2008

For 2008 Nationals for Skeet and Trap events in Jaipur, Dec 14 onwards, a number of shooters are already in Jaipur, but quite a few are training at the Karni Singh Range in Dubai.

I was there with them yesterday, watching them and training with them. The blokes are doing well under the coach Mr. PS Sodhi.

Sodhi Sir has kindly accepted to take me under his wings as well for training in Skeet and Trap with the 2009 tournaments in view.

Our boys are landing up scores of 111 to 120 during the training rounds, which is often a Gold medal grade score.

in skeet. These guys are very good and have the potential to bring a few laurels to India. They have won the Junior Asian Championships Gold in Japipur earlier this year already. Danny won the silver in SAF games in Pakistan this year.

However problems persist. All shooters are short of cartridges at this crucial time. Import permits are still with the Babus of this worls under processing. Shortage of clays, NRAI not returning yet cartridges it borrowed from shooters for Mavlankar and other events, they too have not recieved their consignment, only one range working etc. etc.

Our boys train hard all day, bring their own food, use poor chaning rooms, have no locker rooms and poor sanitation, yet they match best in the world.

Nationals - this is equal to Ranji Trophy in cricket ? Why our Govt. cannot provide accomodation and food for our shooters by asking the cash rich BCCI to bear the expenses in Jaipur remains a question.

Firstly, you are a very lucky guy to get trained by PS Uncle.He is an excellent coach and a even better shooter.A rare combination.

There are a lot of good skeet shooters in India like Mairaj Khan,Mann Singh,Abhinav Reddy,Danny Peoples, Arozepal and many more.The govt dosent do much for the shooters.Moreover, you must realize Shahid Bhai this is an expensive and a royal sport.The common man can hardly think about joining.

Asher Noria and Kynan Chenai are two more boys to look out for in Double Trap and Trap.My money is on them for London 2012.

Reports are that the government has agreed to provide a foreign coach, 50,000 cartridges @750 per day and a training camp for top 20 shooters free of cost ex january 2009.

Lets see if this promise takes shape.

After seeing our boys shoot my strong feeling is that we have great chances for medals in Asian Games 2010, Commonwealth games 2010 and at the London olympics these guys will ensure that the Indian Tricolor is hosted once again on British Soil like that Hockey Gold of 1948.
