Hey guys,
Why don't you all continue enjoying the ownership of 38 special/357 Magnums and let us be with our 45 ACPs. No point stirring up a hornet's nest. or is there?

penpusher, you are a sadist.. leave the Rookies alone, will you? We Indians are still much better off then The British and the Aussies and many other nations. We do not need a CCP to carry our handguns. most of the authorities concerned are ignorant about the pertaining laws and more often then not, that works in our favor. We are a happier lot and we can say that again.Hydnawab, hope you too are listening.
Cheers!!!

I beg to disagree. The Brits can't own a handgun. The Aussies can though that is too circumscribed.Discard this and they are living in gun heaven compared to we Indians.marksman";p="61059 wrote: We Indians are still much better off then The British and the Aussies

This Q has been asked earlier too by another member from Mumbai.
If you travel often outside of Mumbai and feel the need to carry a fire arm, then why don’t you
apply for an All India Licence, with your Licencing authority, since it is a state subject, all that it requires is a go ahead from the State Home Sec,off course you are going to have to convince him that there is a legitimate need for it.
Marksman if we restrict oursleves South East Asia/Middle East/ASEAN then perhaps we are better off than most, penpusher where the Brits & others score over us to a great extent is controlled & sustainable hunting, which is good for the eco system & our bozo's just dont get it & that usually leads to more liberal rules wrt imports of hunting rifles & shotguns

I'd like to point out a couple of things as far as Asian nations go - almost all of them were colonies and therefore have similar histories of gun control (as us). Thailand (Siam) remained independent during colonial days and therefore citizens there enjoy very free gun laws, this in spite of it's often times troubled tryst with democracy.
Japan is an interesting case study of gun control, but that would take this thread completely OT. BTW they currently have rather tight laws and yet crime thrives...
Anyhow why compare ourselves with the ones who are worse off, aren't we all taught to aim for something higher in life (than what we already have)? Lets look at Thailand, New Zealand, USA, Switzerland etc. and not at China & co.
Colthead, I am not sure if the Mumbai authorities will grant you an ALL INDIA permit for a .45 ACP pistol. They are well aware of the laws of the land, whether they choose to wink at them or not is another matter altogether...
Cheers!
