Hi Mack The Knife,

I was indeed mentioning about khukuri palace and not himalayan-imports, actually the khukuri palace has a retail divison called himalayanmrt.com

Thanks for the link, a very well written review. Well, what i concluded was both himalayan imports and khukuri palace make almost similar stuff. KP is much better priced though.

Well, I did contact KP and the person there Bijay shankar, mentioned that shipping to india is not possible the customs don't let it through.

Hope I get to see your khukri and I'll show the ones that I have to you when i am in India this time around.

Regards
Ranjeet

HI Jonah,
Besides Mack The Knife's specifications, I dont want any wood on the handle-leave it bare-I'll finish it my self...

Jonah

:?: :?: :?:

Jonah, I did not ask for a khukuri! I am interested in the bowie, as is Asif. It was Ranjeet who was interested in the khukuri but he does not commit himself to a purchase unless he has sent you a PM to that effect.

I wanted to know if your smith could make the bowie to my specifications and if so what it would cost. Leather sheath only.

If the chap cannot make the bowie, I'll take the standard one you pictured above but please tell him that I would like a leather sheath and not a wooden scabbard.

Let me know which type of bowie (standard or made to my specs) I would be getting and what it would cost.

Thanks.

Hmmm.. ooops!
Okie Mack The Knife & Asif no harm done. I'll change the order. Ranjeet the khukri photo you have is a real beauty. But most of these chrome/nickel plated jobs are not of much use in the field and are just a little more than paper weights! I can get non plated khukris for you.

Hmm.. maybe i can start some kind of a business here. Wonder how many thousand i can sell in a week..

Thanks Jonah but to what will you change the order to - custom (as per my specs) or standard? I am okay with either but I would like to know what I am getting and an approximate cost at the very least. Sheath has to be in leather though.

I don't know about that but I wish you luck. However, if his quality is good, the members could get together to design a knife and then this knife could be made for IFG members.

I already have a particular design in mind but I am sure others would also like to have their say.

True except that the HI khukuris aren't plated. Not sure about the other company but I think if they were plated it would have come up on that review.

Hi Jonah,

I am rather sure that the khukuri is not plated, just shined / finished with a machine.

Of course, I wouldn't want a chrome plated khukuri. if the shape is similar and you would have noticed the full tang with the rivets. Not sure how important that is, but the website says its meant for hard stressful work - a farmer's first choice..

How much would it cost me?

regards
Ranjeet

If you are getting a custom design knife made, I am in too..

And I guess, you can get the sheath done anywhere doesn't have to be from Mizo..

HI use a powdered stone called Magic stone to get that effect.

Mark has achieved the same high lustre finish on the two home made knives he has shown on another thread.

Whilst I may have specified a full tang for the bowie, it really isn't necessary unless I use the bowie as a heavy duty pry bar. A hidden tang or a rat tail tang will transmit less shock to your hands when chopping and that's a very good thing.

Good but do you have any particular type of blade shape or feature you would like to see?

Do you know of anyone in particular?

Nothing in particular, but a good, solid knife. something like a puma waidblatt, if it can be made...

I guess, I'll just walk into some local shoe repairer and ask him if can make a sheath..of good thick leather..shouldn't be so difficult , just cut out 2 patches and stitch with a thick nylon thread..
