I could'nt find any details about this incident. I think its one of those incidents that gets threaded from one forum to the next to the next. I saw this on Trapshooters.com on two various threads but no details in either of them, just smart comments poking fun at the poor miserable owner of the gun.

Sharief,

It was a Savage 110 series gun that got blown up because of a bore obstruction. The news was on OLN as well ason several forums.

Unlike the Sakos and Blasers that were blown up this was not a gun that failed because of poor quality control.

I can sympathisize with the poor gentleman, but I wish I could have seen his eyes when he looked up over the scope after pulling the trigger.....

Of course I can laugh because I've been there too, just not THIS expensively!

Some years ago there was a gentleman killed at a benchrest match when he forgot to remove the cleaning rod from the barrel.

Just goes to show you that constant vigilance is always needed when dealing with things bigger than you are, and that includes energy levels.

Mark, to have seen that guys` eyes you would have had to be standing in front of the rifle.........................
There are several reports every year of shooters forgetting to remove their rods from muzzle loaders.......anyone for high speed archery ? I`ve not heard of any barrel failures though.
I saw the report of the speghetti barrel above a while ago. Not the first time that I`ve seen one and the Birmingham Proof House has some superb examples.

My God this is so scary, I hope never to see this in real life. So such a beautiful rifle now becomes a wall flower.

have seen a 303 rifle belonging to the homeguards here in Aizawl blowup like this one. Some wasps had built a home in one of the barrels kept in storage and the soldier fired his weapon without inspecting the barrel. Luckily he wasnt injured.

My view on the barrel blow out:-

The fellow was sighting in his rifle using a bore sighter and then decided to fire a shot to check the zero forgeting to remove the bore sighter.

You are right penpusher.The shooter was using a boresight which he forgot to take off.Read on a different forum.

The Blaser that made the news was exonerated by the german proof house, the culprit was a massive overload of the wrong powder in a handload. The Sako, the stainless version, had the wrong barrel steel, there is nothing wrong or weak about the M75 action as such. If you get either at a good price, don't pass it up. Cheers.
