Yesterday's solo trip to Forbes.
I was looking forward to an early morning session and the alarm was set to go off at 04:00. I assume it did but conciousness only took over at 05:30. Since I was already late I took my time getting ready and finally puttered out of my gate at 06:20 to reach Forbes by 09:00.
By 09:30 I was in the old tub and casting away for murrel but thirty minutes into the session another WASI member rolled up and I went back to the bank to pick him up. I assumed he would be just as keen to spin for murrel but he had ledgering for mahseer in mind so I rigged up another rod and off we went.
Barring one bite that was converted there was absolutely nothing happening and so we finally rowed back to the cars at 13:00.
My friend decided to plug for mahseer at one of the two exits at Forbes and it was a much relieved moi who set off for murrel again after scoffing a sandwich and some tea.
After a fair bit of casting I landed the first murrel of the day.
A shortwhile later I came upon another angler who had his own ideas on how to catch a fish. C&R is definitely not too high on his list of priorities.
At 02:30 there was to be a change of guard and so we rowed back to the bank once again. Another sandwich and a cup of tea later and I was on my way again.
By 5 p.m. my wrists were aching from the continuous casting and all I had to show for my efforts were three more murrel.
I decided to take a break and ledger for mahseer but once again drew a blank. So an hour later I decided to go back to fishing for murrel. I latched into one soon after but he managed to throw the hook. However, I soon caught a largish one just after sunset. This one faught all the way to the boat and then some and at one point of time even got the drag discs slipping. I let it throw a tantrum before asking the ghillie to haul it in.
I cast around for another 15 minutes or so and then called it a day.

Indian,
I prefer to release the fish. However, if I am staying at the WASI cottage, which isn't very often these days, I will keep one or two for the table depending on the number of people staying at the cottage.

Is anyone planning a new year fishing session at WASI
I would love to join in and spend a camp fire to welcome 2009 at the WASI hut.
If a member is joining with family, I would be more than available to be there with my better-half
P.S. Dec 32st is Wednesday ...
