Amazing Revolver

Post by art_collector » Mon Nov 03, 2008 12:42 am

An Amazing Revolver.

I just saw a program on Aaj Tak titled “RAAZ”. The story was indeed amazing .During a murder attempt in Chandigarh the family saw the head of the family being shot by a revolver. Two shots were fired by the assailant from the same revolver. But the bullets recovered were of two different bores. A 32 Bore and a 9mm shot. The police were baffled how that was possible. The bullets recovered were sent to CFL, Chandigarh for examination. The result after examination was that the bullets were fired from the same revolver. But how was that possible no one could work out.

In the meantime a country made revolver was recovered in UNA in Himachal Pradesh. A strange looking 5 shot revolver and it held the key to the unsolved cases in Chandigarh. The revolver had a chamber that fired 5 different bores of ammunition namely… 32 Pistol, 32 Long Revolver, 9 mm, AK-47 & .30 Pistol . No one had ever seen such a revolver before. An year later the revolver was shown at the International Forensic Exhibition in the USA and it took everyone by surprise.

I tried searching the Aaj Tak web site for the complete story…what I found was a link to the Hindi program. I’m posting the details ..take a look….

what should be the bore diameter of the barrel to fire all these rounds. 32 ACp, 32 s&W, 30 Luger or Mauser and even 7.62x39 have somewhat close bullet diameter but how a bullet of .355 diameter is going to pass through that barrel or if bore is .35 then all other bullets will be going through the barrel without engaging in land & groves. 32 ACP, 30 Luger and even 9mm are rimless cartridge, so there must be some way to hold them to receive the hit from firing pin and as there is no rim how they will be supported by the cylinder. S&W had a 9mm revolver which had a very complex system of ejector to hold the rimless pistol cartridge but it was not a huge success. it must be an interesting handgun.
moreover firing an intermediate rifle cartridge from a not so well built hardware with not proven metallurgy will be really daring.

it is very much possible tenx that it do not get any rifling, as i have seen many local made guns sans rifling most common were pen pistols in 25 ACP. but grooves or no grooves the question of bore diameter still remains there.

Different chambers, same barrel , so as pointed out correctly the bore has to be large enough to shoot the largest round of them all.
No rifling ? Yes most certainly.
Accuracy? LOL !!!!!!! .
The criminal must have used it at a very close range to hit the victim twice that is if he managed to hit his desired target.
Pressures generated ? Back pressure ? Well the user has been lucky as far as the handgun blowing up in his hand or face is concerned.
I would love to see the chamber of this peculiar gadget !!

best,

RP.
