penpusher,

No problem making a few sketches but need to know if Jonah's smith is agreeable to making them.

I am okay with this.

Jonah, let me know what can be made, for how much and who to send the money to.

Inder,

Just guessing here but that S&W khuk is probably a rebadged Cold Steel one in Carbon V. If that is the case, I would hesitate to use it for heavy duty work.

Hey Mack The Knife this particular Khukri was made for meat cleaving hence its thin blade. Anyway the blacksmith can make it as per customers requirements. The Scabbard is made of wood and here's the pic. Sorry about the handle, I've returned the knife and its a bit of a bother now.

Hi Jonah,

Not sure if I am reading that pic correctly but am I right in saying that apart from the frog, there is no leather covering on the scabbard itself?

If your smith can make the bowie as per my specs, please ask him for a quote when time permits. I am in no hurry. I would like a plain leather sheath - no wood.

Thanks.

Thanks for reply, Satpreet, and eljefe.

Mack The Knife, if you are planning get one khukri made for yourself, Can you please make that two. I would like the same specs, I read that 10'' inches blade is most practical.

Or how about ordering from Nepal directly, if maybe we can get hold of some shop in India who would order for us in bulk and we can buy from there. It should not be a problem for a shop to import khukris for sale..

I found one the Wholesale version of himalayan-imports who ship minimum 10 khuks and you get one free.

Just need to figure out if we can order blunt ones (hope customs are ok with blunt khukris) only for decoration and sharpen if required.

Thanks
Ranjeet

just made a rough calculation

For a 'Dotted Panawal' Khukri, which comes very close to Mack The Knife's spec.
i.e 10.5 '' Long balde and a full tang, 4.5'' handle- meant for stressful hard work

I think including shipping the cost would be about $312 for 11 khuks making each ~Rs 1300.

What say guys, does anyone know of a shop who can and would import these khukris and sell to us? ok willing to give 15% margin to him making each about Rs 1500.

Regards
Ranjeet

Ranjeet,

Asif and I are discussing the possibility of getting a 10" bowie made. However, if we can sort out the formalities there is no reason why you cannot add your order to it. Speak to Jonah about it.
Or how about ordering from Nepal directly, if maybe we can get hold of some shop in India who would order for us in bulk and we can buy from there. It should not be a problem for a shop to import khukris for sale..
Only if the shop has an import licence for knives.

I found one the Wholesale version of himalayan-imports who ship minimum 10 khuks and you get one free.
Can you provide a link to this please? If you were refering to www.khukuriknife.com then that has nothing to do with Himalayan Imports. The correct site is www.himalayan-imports.com and their prices are a lot higher.

You could always order from the U.S. into Germany. Bring it to India when you return for good. Say it's a family heirloom that you have always kept with you. I very much doubt you would have a problem.
