Visit London Heathrow on the web,you should have your answers, else send them a mail.
Jet is obviously clue less, before dep from India ensure that the carrier you are flying allows carriage of
AR's.

Check with a British authority equivalent to the TSA (Transport and Security Admin) of the USA and you can produce that detail to Jet Airways just in case they are trying to discourage you.

I think i have noticed from personal experience is that Indian ground staff of Airlines will draw a blank when you ask them this question and would usually give you a No as answer simply because either they are unable to locate such a clause or, do not have any at all.

i think its load of cobblers what the jet airways is saying.

do not go by what the airline is saying about the airport etc,

the main point should be 1) does jet carry airguns?
2) can jet airways give a ref to the statement made by them?

one should check with the British Airport Athourity. Firearms are coming and going from all Major British Airports. i mean full bore type. why not try the BAA website?

if you say it can not be done, then you are right, for you, it can not be done.

Since i was planning to get an air rifle back with me next month from London i just called up Jet Airways and they informed me that London Airport (Heathrow) does not allow air guns to be carried at all - even in checked i baggage !!! Do you have any information about this ? Thanks
That's simply not true... I got an air-rifle back last year (I flew Virgin), my sis-in-law got an air-pistol back in April this year (she flew British Airways) and my Dad got an air-rifle back this September (he flew Air India). All three departures were from Heathrow and the airguns were declared as part of baggage prior to departure. No problems at all.

Though last year my wife did have a bit of a problem at Heathrow when she was carrying back an air-pistol, but that was because it was just days after the attack on Glasgow airport etc. and there was a major security alert all over UK. She eventually left it behind (that's the one my sis-in-law got this time).

Jet is just jerking you around...

Cheers!

Call up Jet again and give them this link - from their own website :)

Weapons and Ammunition: Security regulations prohibit the carriage of weapons in the passenger cabin. The following weapons may be carried in the checked in luggage ,provided they are sheathed /securely packed to prevent injury to handlers and screeners:

Knives
Box Cutter
Swords
Spear Guns
Martial Arts Weapons
Licensed Firearms (Conditions Apply)

I had a similar experience with Delta. I confirmed online and called the lady again, and yet she did not give me any clarity. So I just went 4 hours before my flight and got things thru. Matter of fact, the person you would talk to is mostly in a call center in Bangalore :) ... and all they do is hit a 'search' query for words you ask. There is no mention of 'Airgun' or 'air gun' anywhere - resulted in zero search results for the bright call center executive ... and so the story goes
;) :)

TSA (Transport Security Administration) screens every passenger's baggage before it is placed on an airplane. There are times when TSA has to physically inspect a piece of luggage. TSA has worked with several companies to develop locks that can be opened by security officers using universal "master" keys so that the locks may not have to be cut. Passengers departing from the U.S. are advised to use TSA approved locks. Details of such locks are available from the website: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/ ... locks.shtm. These locks are available at airports and travel stores

The following is from http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/ ... ems.shtm#6

This is a complete guide to what TSA wants the passengers to do :)

since this query is obviously addressed to Mack The Knife and abhijeet, i take it you would mind, and get very miffed if i told you my experiences.

otherwise, i would have volunteered the information that i've flown with jet twice from heathrow and brought airguns with me, no problems. the check in staff and enquiry line blokes/ladies were pretty clueless, so it was an hour before they could piece all the rules together and guide me thorugh the proper channels, customs, security etc. but it was done. the chap in jet you spoke to was obviously bluffing, as the others have suggested.

but who am i to speak

so do all of us and yourself a favour and stop seeking info as if you're planning the next normandy invasion :P . you will only get even more confused. take the blessed step and get one back. end of story

Thanks everyone . I will do that. Thank you hamiclar01. I am fairly new to the forum and i specifically addressed it to Abhijeet & Mack The Knife as i presumed they were the most experienced. Sorry no offence to all the others all your experiences are invaluable. thank you once again for the info .

hamiclar01 - Do we need to inform the airline before hand about this and get some kind of written permission from them or do we just go directly to the airport check in counter early and sort this out ? Also does Heathrow Security need any special locks to be put like TSA.
By the way have you put down your import experience in the forum ? If not it would be really helpful and encouriging if you could please do that. :)
