May I suggest:
more obstacles and greater variety of shooting. (Go beyond cans on the floor) - Something that requires a little more of something.. like maybe even swing on a rope

I was thinking a proper HFT setup with partly hidden targets. Plus the shooter should be allowed to use any position desired - Standing, Kneeling or Prone.
Also the points system should be employed with the time accounted for.
For example if you complete 10/10 targets in 4 minutes in a 5 min event, you should get 10+1=11 Points. ie, every minute saved will add to the points, rounded to nearest minute if above 30 secs. ie, 3min and 10 sec will be 3 mins, and 3 min and 30 sec+ will be 4 minutes, so on and so forth.
The shooter should hit a minimum number of targets to qualify for the time points. For example, somebody who hits zero targets and finishes the course in 2min will not get points for the saved minutes.
To make it even tougher, we can also implement a negative point system if the shooter exceeds the time limit. Using the same rounding, one negative point should be implemented for each of the exceeded minutes.
Also, we can use a shooting position based points system. For example, if each target has a 5 point value, the shooter gets 5 points if shot standing and unsupported, 4 points kneeling etc.
Another thought was to have individual timing for each target instead of a timed course.
Eg: Each target has a 25 sec time limit for the shooter to aim and shoot. Each elapsed 5 seconds will deduct one point from the 5 point total. The course will not have a time limit and the user can rest between shots if needed.
So if a shooter downs a target in 4 seconds, he will get 5 points for that shot. If he does so in 20 seconds, he will get 1 point..
The combinations are many. I'm sure it'll be fun!
Plus nobody will be panting by the end of the course!

Well, he'll have to catch me first!! I can run!! And I'm gonna!The RSM is an ex-pugilist I am told.
Boy is he gonna have a twist in the morning! He should be online any minute now!!
I'm gonna poke him as much as I can, till he decides to do something about it. ie, not doing something about my poking, but doing something about his weight!
But the dude does carry himself around pretty quick and keeps on an it. With that kinda stamina he can fry the flab in no time. All it takes will be a li'l poking. And I will be more that happy to lend him some!
