It is a RFI made .315 Lee Enfield rifle.It has been worked upon by a friend who is also a member here.However,once I posted a question and then was accused of trying to promote him.Now,this might seem like a ploy,infact a conspiracy hatched by me and Vishosingh to do that again

So I will wait for Vishosingh to reply.If he does not,then I will put up the gunsmiths details.I believe that common decency demands that the person who has done the work should get an acknowledgment of that.

We Indians are so used to the hack jobs that the majority of the so called gunsmiths do,that we will not acknowledge that any Indian can do a good job on a firearm.And Yes,India is big enough to have more than one good gunsmith.

Might ruffle some feathers but I think I can live with that

BTW,that is Indian walnut.How would you compare it to Turkish Walnut?

finally the suspense breaks>
it is the iof 315 as pointed out by penpusher. it has been done up completely by a close friend bobby sidhu of patiala, who from the pictures you can make out is a competent gunsmith.
and as pointed out by abhijeet quality never comes cheap, this baby was done up for a cost of 42000 rupees and no this does not include the cost of the rifle!
the rifle shoots quite accurate the only concern being the quality of the iof cartridges.
there you have it ....the cats been released.

I do not think Rs.42,000.00 is excessive for such work. I was told Rs.70,000.00 and did not think that unreasonable either and I am not a rich man, if that's what some of you are thinking. Personally, I think it's money well spent and congratulations to you and Bobby.

I would like to know how well the trigger and bolt now operate compared to an imported rifle in good nick and how accurate it is now.

Bobby must have made some more changes in addition of the external appearance of the .315 if the firearm has to function and fire accurately. Would you mind elaborating on that please?
Is it a new rifle or an old one?

sir this rifle actualy belongs to my uncle. i would agree with Mack The Knife on the point that it is money well spent.
apart from the cosmetic changes he has smoothened the action and the feed, changed the sights and i think he has also shortened the barrel a bit to reduce the whip effect common to iof 315s but am not sure about this, the magazine also has been converted into an internal one with a button release magazine floor plate. there are a few other technical details that i am not aware of.
the rifle shoots pretty accurate at about a 100 yards ...not noted the grouping though. and the action of the bolt is also pretty smooth now as compared to when the rifle was bought.
the wor was done on a brand new rifle and no it is not for sale!!!!
