Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
Hi Sharad,
I doubt the FPO will have anything to do with this matter. The parcel is more likely being detained by customs at the airport cargo section.
In the past when I have been sent a show cause notice and my import licence number has been asked for, my reply has always been, "I have imported xyz for my personal use and not for any commercial purposes. Hence, an import licence number is not applicable in this case". In short, your answer was correct.

@ All ,Dear friends,
Still waiting for a word from Fed Ex. Meanwhile it would be of great help if fellow members who have dealt with Custom Clearance can give me a few pointers? i.e where to go and who to talk to regarding this situation. Any additional documents required (other than those for FPO route). If the s**t hits the fan want to be prepared. Kindly help..
Thanks and regards,
Sharad

Just get your membership with dsra or rifle club, photostat of the page of the india extra ordinary gazette where it covers the part about import of .177 airguns. Then scoot to the FPO and meet Mr. Nair. Tell him you know minkey called siddharth kapur (actually don't). Your airgun paperwork will take about a few hours and then it will take a week or two to move from FPO to central and then local and finally reach your home with 15% CVA added.madmax";p="54094 wrote: @ All ,Dear friends,

Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
Hello Dev,
I am stuck with Fed Ex ,actually they deal through airport customs. Have been mailing them feverishly for the past week but the clearance team is completely incompetent when it comes to AirGuns/Air Pistols. I have sent them all the documents i had, namely the membership card copy, the NRAI notifications, the airpistol manual etc but their mails typically read as "Dear sir please send us your import permit, a letter from sports authority of India that the package in question is permitted,it is a dummy gun etc etc ." I finally decided to send the Fed Ex Brass a strongly worded letter (what i think of them and their clearance team capabilities). Will keep the thread updated if anything worthwhile happens.
An advice to fellow members use USPS for these things, its cheaper and you know the FPO drill unlike the drama i am likely to face.
Regards,
Sharad.

i would strongly suggest you to visit the concern fedex person and airport custom officer.you have enough document for realising the gun ie rifle club card and exim notes. the letter from sport authority applies only to firearm import to renowed shootters.
the personal import doent need any exim code or importer license.
if you visit them you can educate them .onlysending mail doesnt kicks hard.
all the best

Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
If you import a 0.22 air rifle by courier / post from the US will the Post Office or Customs confiscate it as only 0.177 is allowed or can we find a way to still clear it ? Anybody done this ?

After 14 pages of posts on this subject you still have a doubt?
Only .177" calibre air-rifles/pistols can be imported via post or courier and there is no dodge around this rule.
