Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Hi,
Sudhakardm and AC beautiful rifles you got there.
Sudhakardm, has the barrel been tapered? It looks really sleek. (Pardon my ignorance, I have never observed a .22 IOF closely, though I have handled quite a few foreign makes).
Striker, .22 LRs do not have recoil.
Cheers,
Jam

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Jam,
People get their IOF .22's prettied up and say that they have been modified.I hope AC won't mind if I say that the green monstrosity that his customer probably forced him to churn out, does not even meet that definition.
I would call it modified,if at the end of it,it not only looks good but also shoots better.Changing the profile of the stock, bluing the rifle and all the other things that people get done to their rifles is just cosmetic.
If you want to spend money, spend it on making your rifle more accurate and not just more beautiful. The IOF is capable of shooting as well as most if not all of the 'Phoren' brand .22 rifles in the Indian market.A friend pitched it against an Anschutz and it shot better than the latter.
One of our members has happily discovered the potential of the IOF .22 and has lost all interest in any Brno, shrno unless he can get it at a price he paid for the IOF .22
Pillar bed it/bed the action, free float the barrel and re-crown it and you would have a far better rifle.Find the ammo. that it shoots well.Get AC to make one of those $358 stocks for you and you would have a very accurate and beautiful rifle.
Ignore my advise if ,however, you just want a 'purty' rifle to admire, show to your friends and fire a couple of rounds into the air once a year.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Hi penpusher,
It is interesting to know the capability of a .22 IOF. I would consider modifying the rifle to make it more accurate. But, at the same time, spending $358 just for a stock is way too much.
Cheers,
Jam

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
If you are refering to barrel harmonics, all barrels exhibit this to some degree regardless of whether they are floated or not.Quick queries, would the IOF .22 barrel flex if floated ?
I do not recall shooting the rifle on paper before free floating the barrel, so cannot answer your question. If you have seen what passes for inletting on these rifle stocks, you will understand why that is probably the very first thing I did after buying one. I should point out that free floating a barrel needn't be the only way to accurise a rifle. Something as simple as point bedding (contact between the bottom of the barrel and the stock aft of the stock fore-end at a certain point) has turned inaccurate rifles into tack drivers. There's a well documented example of this in one of Craig Boddington's books.Anybody who tried free floating it and how did it shoot post that ?

You are correct. The barrel has been reduced.
Thx

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Hi,
The only changes that have been made in these 22 rifles is :
The Stocks have been modified.
The barrel has been reblued
NOTHING else has been modified. The modified rifles have been made to look just beautiful. The green stock was made to meet some ones exact requirement though I found it to be quite horrible in looks. But then that was the only picture I had so posted the same over here.
Though I havent fired any of these rifles some people find them decent enogh in terms of accuracy.

Nice piece.
Work well done on the stock. Makes it worth while owning an IOF .22 rifle.
The magazine is an eyesore... I plan to(When I get down to owning an IOF .22 rifle), throw it away or donate it to someone needy- In it's place I plan to build a 10 shot rotary magazine not too different from the Ruger 10-22.
I'll make the base flush with the stock....(a new one as well)...
Shoot well and safe.
Ummm take a look at what people have done with the Marlin 880 magazine. They have often reduced it to a five shot from an eight shot. Ending up with a magazine that fits flush into the stock. Could be easier than making the ruger version.

Hi
I appreciate your comments and knowledge. But you have forgotten the fact that, with out accuracy a rifle is nothing but a peice of pipe. So every one will make sure that it shoots properly.
Thx

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Sudhakar,
Would love to hear what you have done to your IOF .22 to make it shoot better. What sort of groups were you getting prior to the accurizing and what are the groups now?
Other members who have one, or are contemplating buying one, would certainly benefit from your inputs.
Photographs would most certainly help.Like they say, a photo is worth a thousand words.
Shoot safely and enjoy your rifle.
