CLARIFICATION :10 Mtr. air rifle COMPETETION RULES

This question was asked by a friend of mine who is the secretary of a rifle club.
In NRAI sponsored and international 10 Mtrs. air rifle competetions do they allow PCP repeater rifles, like Walther 1250 dominator, Avanti 753 BSA Techstar .177? all without telescopic sites.He is trying to import some PCP. rifles for his club,Budget aorund 600 USD.suggestions welcome.

Any expereince about single shot like Airarms 200 Traget or Benjamin Discovery?

Also, is there a recomended color for the wall behind the traget/(back drop)? any specified color for the plate of the pellet catcher? He has the use of a 10 Mtrs. range (Old .22 bore range now defunct) and would like to do it as per regulations .Any internet sites for these informations?

As far as I know there is no rule that stops one from using a multi-shot air-rifle. However, the rifle must be single loaded for every shot and if a particular rifle does not have a single-shot adaptor, then the shooter would waste time removing, loading and replacing the magazine.

The Air Arms S200 Target should make a good club rifle.

Specifications for ISSF 10 metre target air-rifles are:
1) Max. weight of 5.5 kgs for both men and women.
2) No set trigger. Trigger release not be set under 50 grams.
3) Max. length of barrel including any front sight extensions not to exceed 850mm.
4) To be used with 4.5mm/.177" cal. pellets.
5) Thumbhole, thumbrest, palm rest, heel rest, spirit level and bipods are not permitted.

Earlier on walls were painted a pale green colour but pinewood planks against a solid wall seem to be more common these days.

Herewith a few points concerning 10m airgun ranges.

1) This should ideally be an indoor range.

2) If it is an outdoor range then care should be taken to see that the Sun never shines into the shooter's eyes. The ideal orientation would be North-South or South-North.

3) The distance between the face of the target and the firing line should be 10.00 metres. A variation of +/- 0.05 m is permissible.

4) The line of targets must be parallel to the firing line.

5) Protection against rain, sun and wind must be provided and should be such that no particular firing point/s has any advantage over the other firing points.

6) A safe backstop (one that stops an errant pellet but does not let the pellet rebound back to the shooter) should be provided directly behind the target holders and should be of sufficient height so as to fulfill the safety requirements.

7) There should be sufficient space behind the firing points to accomodate range officials, the jury and those shooters awaiting their turn.

8 ) Spectator space should be provided directly behind the shooters and officials space but should be seperated from the latter by a suitable barrier. This barrier should be atleast 5.00 metres behind the firing line.

9) There should be a large clock at each end of the range that is easily viewed by shooters and officials alike.

10) Target frames or mechanisms must be marked with numbers corressponding to their firing point numbers. The numbers must be large enough to be seen by competitors and officials alike at the appropriate distance with unaided vision. The numbers must be in alternate and contrasting colour schemes. Eg. black number on white background, followed by white number on black background and so on.

11) Targets and target holders must be firmly fixed in their positions.

12) The target centre must be at 1.40 metres (+/- 0.05 m) from the finished floor level.

13) The firing point must be at the same level as that directly under the target.

14) Each firing point must be a minimum of 1.00 metre wide.

15) Target changers may be electrical or mechanical.

16) There must be a chair or stool for each shooter behind the firing line.

17) Indoor 10 metre ranges must have artifical illumination providing an even amount of light without glare or distracting shadows on the targets or at the firing points. The entire area should be evenly illuminated with no less than 300 three hundred) lux. Targets must be evenly illuminated with no less than 1000 (one thousand) lux.

You are most welcome. I suggest your friend buy the latest ISSF rule book from the ISSF website, as well as the NRAI rule book from NRAI.

These may also be available as downloads. They should be printed out as it's good to have a hard copy at the range.

.. Target illumination device could be of an adjustable type.
In our club, we have also provided a mirror which can be used by shooters during practice to observe their position. However, this is not required for competitions.
A changing room is highly advisable considering the shooters' requirement to change into the stiff jackets and trousers..
The shooter's table comes immediately after the 10m firing line (which is Red in color). This line is 10m from the target.

Dear Saptarshi.
Presently, NCRC is functioning at West Bengal rifle Association range, It is located at SAI stadium(Salt Lake) Behind the tenis courts, by the side of Billiards coaching center. They can be reached on sundays, between 4 to 6 PM.
Membership Fees: Rs.1210 per anum or Rs.5,000 for life membership.
