It is interesting to note the arbitrariness in designating numerical values to dB in view of the fact that reduction in decibel levels is dependent upon several variables; not only on individual Perception of Loudness but also on Sound Pressure Levels, one’s distance from the source of sound, etc. A lawnmower sounds “louder” to the schmuck doing his lawn than to his neighbor watching the ball game with his buddies over cold beer (Burp!).

With reference to firearms, “loudness” from a longer barreled rifle will be significantly lower to the shooter than discharging the same round from a short barrel pistol; it would be exponentially reduced as one moves further away from the gun.

A detachable (or integral) sound suppressor (“Silencer”) is merely a functional substitute for a longer barrel; so is a pillow, a 2L Coke bottle, a potato, etc., or any other implement attached to a firearm that affects reduction in “loudness” There is no law against having a longer barreled firearm (or a practical substitute for a longer barrel?). “WHEN SILENCERS ARE OUTLAWED, OUTLAWS WILL USE PILLOWS AND POTATOES!” Can you come up with a better slogan for a bumper sticker? LMAO

hi guys do any one know that SMLE action was changed to accept .45 acp round during world war and it was silenced too.it was bolt action weapon with magzin capacitiy of 7 rounds used by british commandos for very important missions where they needed silence.it was commonly known as De Lisle carbine thanks
