my first try at formal fishing.

Post by archer » Thu Aug 28, 2008 3:39 pm

here are some pics of my first formal attempt at fishing. the location is close to jim corbett national park. date 10th july 2008. i did not have the pictures with me till recently. the river being a small volume river, we only got small sized fished, (thats my logic, please correct me if i am wrong).
rod and reel were owned by the resort.
rod: make LICA
reel Aries (forget the model number )

Honestly i was surprised with the number of fishes i caught. i got 7 mahseer and 6 trout in all in a 2hr session.
here are the pics

I am not surprised at the number of fish caught but more by their size. As per posts on IA, thise mahseer are quite tame and have even been caught on white foam (because it looks like bread). What surprises me is the size. Do they not have any bigger mahseer there? I suppose you were using aata for bait?

Was this the stretch that is cordoned off to keep the crocs at bay?

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed yourself.

Mack The Knife sir,

the river that we were fishing on was not the main river(its called ram ganga). permits are not issued after 1st july, so we couldnt fish on the ram ganga(which i believe does have huge fishes. i saw the photos at the resort, they were in excess of 15kgs)

I was using fresh atta as bait.

i had a great time. its an addiction. i am looking forward to my next session of angling. i wish to read up and learn the right technique before i hit the water again.

thanx
regards

Parag,

I know the water body you talk about as we used to swim in it as kids. However, the swimming/bathing stretch was relatively short and blocked by nets to keep the crocs out. This used to be pretty shallow and since you mention the water being thus, I was wondering if that is where you fished.

If you have taken to the sport, join Indian Angler and ask some of the Bombay chaps to help you get started.

Nice.. welcome to the addiction. I gather you only baited form the shore. Not bad for a start (as if I am any authority), and this is wishing you a wonderous and fish-ful journey ahead...

Formal Fishing ....................Whats that ? Oh ok its when you go fishing wearing a suit & tie , is that it ???

Hope you let the poor blighters go , they looked too tiny anyway.

You want some good challenging trout , contact Christopher Mitra of the trout house in HP.

All the best and sign up for the upcoming angling comp - North Zone.

Cheers Rohit.
