And ?
Revolvers in .45 acp have been built since WWI and S&W build various models to this day. Only problem is that the 45 acp being a `rimless` cartridge they have to be held in `half moon` clips ( three cartridges in each. ) Lose the clips and you have a problem.......................................

Grumpy was the M1917 included in Lend Lease Program. in my opinion N frame S&W are the best revolver size( well thats my own view). i recently reacquired the victory revolver which my father brought from England in 50's and it is reamed to take 38 special cartridge by some gunsmith in UK. IFIRC even Parker Hale do some conversions on those revolvers & they cut the barrels to 4" with ramp front sight but mine is worked by unknown gunsmith and only conversion is the cylinder reaming.

S&W `Triple Lock` models in .455 were supplied during WWI - superb pistols - along with Colt `New Service` revolvers in the same calibre but the `Lend/Lease` programme was a WWII facility and I know of no `N` Frame models supplied in WWII. There were a great many 38/200 ( .380 Webley ) `K` frame revolvers supplied under Lend/Lease.
I loved my M19 .357 Mag `N` Frame - beautifully made and finished........although it could be considered rather large for the calibre.
The Parker Hale name is owned by David Nickerson nowadays and only a few products are made under the P-H `banner`. P-H gunwork is a thing of the past unfortunately.

yes grumpy sir, sorry i mixed things up regarding ww1 and ww2. it is great to know that you also like N frame as very few people like them. i saw parker hale converted S&W advertisement in a 1958 Gun magazine i downloaded. Mine is A K frame 38 S&W or 38/200 which cylinder is reamed by some one in UK in 1950's as it was bought by my father and brought in the country.
thanks for all input.

From what I've read/heard the .45ACP revolvers were made as the US had a lot of .45 ammo and not enough 1911s so they made the .45ACP revolvers. They were issued to support personnel and there were popular or abundant enough that they stuck in the line-up. The action shooters who use revolvers like this caliber as it is easier to drop the cartridges using full moon clips with everything being a little bigger than .357/38.
