.44 or .405

My quest for a big bore rifle continues and now I'm confused between a winchester .405 clutch action and a winchester .44 clutch action rifle...I'm getting 50 fresh rounds of .44 free with the rifle and the dealer claims that he can get me 100 cartridges at one time(when ever needed)...but the dealer of the .405 wont provide ammo....Please help me decide....

i dont have much idea about it but heard about .405 much more times than .44
Irrespective of the direction of the wind, the smoke from the cigarette will always tend to go to the non-smoker.

Both the rifles are crap .But they sell beacuse we Indians are ready to buy any imported junk ....405 ammunition is virtually impossible to find....and 44 bore is avaiable at 95 each round....but for how long...try for better bores whose ammo is easily available. 405 is meant for elephants and what purpose it would serve for you?

Dont go after the word big bore...its impressive but some dealer is going to make you buy some piece of junk.If you are still keen on a 405 Rifle a frend of mine wishes too sell his DB 405 H"less rifle .The rifle is priced at 95000/- (5000 for the rifle and 90000/- my commission).....

.44 and .405 both are for 40,000/- each...
And art collector...I jus want a rifle coz I want one...n after firing them and looking at the huge damage they do, I luv 'em even if u say its crap, you wont understand the feel of a .44...untill you see a Clint Eastwood movie...

go for the 44, only because you have 50 bullets. which i suppose will take a lifetime to consume!! cause you aint going for elephant hunts!!!

What in the world is a "clutch action"? First time I've come across this particular term...

BTW Clint Eastwood used a .44 Magnum revolver in the Dirty Harry series, not a rifle...

dirty harry used a mag rifle once when he was on a balcony, can not think of the name of the movie, i think it was the one with the chines s actor as his partner.

A .405 Winchester would be a model 1895 LEVER action. A .44 could be either a model 92 in caliber .44-40, a nice rifle but not a powerful caliber, 200 grain bullet at 1330 fps. It could even be the older model 1873. Or it could be a late model 94 in .44 Magnum, more powerful, but not a good action/cartridge combination, as the model 94 was designed for a .30-30 size cartridge. Neither of the three is crap, though for a while in the sixties the model 94 was a poor excuse. Another thing to consider, the original M1895 will not feed the current flat-point ammo from the magazine, only the original round-nose or current pointed-nose ammo. The current, japanese-made, M1895 will feed the flat-point as well as the others. Why Hornady came out with a flat-point bullet when they reintroduced the .405 Winchester is a mystery. Cheers
