great moment in Indian sporting history..
superb performance in the finals by bindra, nail biting for all of us watching, can well imagine what he must have going through...
Abhinav shot a 10.7 10.3 10.4 10.5 10.5 10.5 10.6 10.0 10.2 10.8 in the finals.
He was tied with HAKKINEN Henri of finland after the 9th shot, abhinav last shot a near perfect 10.8, pressure seem to get the better of the finn, he shot a 9.7 slipping to 3rd position. Zhu quian (athen gold medalist) won silver.
Congratulations abhinav, specially when he was told by the doctors some time ago not to pick up a rifle after he came down with severe back problems.

Re: THE GREATEST MOMENT IN INDIAN OLYMPIC HISTORY
Sat sends me an sms: "Bindra in second place. Put the TV on."
I comply but a few seconds later the power goes and sms him back with the bad news.
So, Old Wobbly Knees keeps me informed by phone:
"Bindra now in first spot and leading by one"
"Bindra get's gold"
Little did I know until the power came back how close a final it was. Reminds me of the Yifu Wang - Roberto Di Donna air-pistol final at the '96 Atlanta Olympics.
A heartfelt welldone to Abhinav but I would also like to congratulate all our other shooters representing us in China. They may have missed out on the medals but they are all, barring maybe one or two, capable of winning an Olympic gold on their day.
If I am not mistaken, we still have the 50m rifle and double trap events to go (I don't follow the games closely) and if we can get even one more gong or infinitely better, two, then these guys and girls would do the shooting sports in India a big service.
Incidentally, if any of you want to see some pics from the Olympics, have a look at Anjali's website - http://www.anjalibhagwat.com

OhGod
This is the first by an individual in all of India's history of Olympics
28 yrs ago we won a Hockey gold sans a lot of teams coz of the boycott of the Moscow games in 1980

this link might help to get more facts about who in India won.
Anyways enjoy the sweet moments of an individual gold

Thats a great job done and a big achievement. So many of the babus would already be preparing for the celebrations...
But a friend told me that the guy has been virtually staying abroad and practicing as not much help was avilable to him here. If thats true its such a pity. I didn't see the opening ceremony but did see a few clips on the news channel. The only person full of energy was Sonia Gandhi ...one had to see her waving at the Indian Contingent...wish more people drew inspiration from her and did something for the sports .....and may be for the country too

shabash abhinav, chak de india.
now the rewards will start. central govt, state govt, muncipal team, news channels asking the viewers to send in money, avon cycle, sona chandi chyawanprash........petrol pum allocation (not that he may need it)
govt should put in that much money in sports in the first place.
neta log to waha par masti karne jaatey hain. india has been the gold medal winner this year again: highest proportion of officials to athletes.
well done .... shabash.
and this includes just one common physiotherapist for all the sports.
one coach for each sport. rest are all netas/babus who have nothing to do with sports.
but as they say khushi ke maukey par manhoos logon ka naam nahi lete.
hats off to abhinav
