The Chinese was greeted with great applause and in sheer pressure, followed her shot with a misfire... Since this was an Air Rifle event, I am assuming that she either shot before/after the bell, or what?
But what a moment it should be, to get to the final 8 of the Olympic stands and have this..

Anjali scored 393 and finished off in the 29th position. A total of 8 shooters scored 393 (99 99 97 98).
Avneet Kaur Sidhu scored 389 (98 100 96 95) to take the 39th position.
Samresh Jung came 42nd in the Qualification with a score of 570 (92 95 96 98 96 93), and did not make it to the final round, in the 10m Air Pistol.
Manavjit Singh is in the 12th position with a score of 70 (23 23 24) of the Mens Trap Qualification, round 1, while...
Mansher who shot 69 (25 24 20), is in the 21st position.
Second Qualification and finals is tomorrow. Lets keep our fingers crosses. I hope the M&M duo comes up with a medal... It will be so glorifying

in 1972 my dad had gone to germany for 6 mths training.. there he was staying next to a school and in the cold mornings over a cup of hot black coffee he would see lots of children practicing... up on enquiring with the caretaker he came to know that in schools all the kids had to take lessons in some sport or the other even if they were geeks and dint like sports... by the age of 8-10 you have with you the best selected to go specialised training. and by the age of 13-14 you had a winning team.. in india sports start at the age of 13-14 in the form of inter - school competitions or district level competitions.. and its just too late for anything good by then..

i am sorry to say that the sport in India is very much aimed at the top level and not at the grass root level. 
if u get to the top on ur own then u get to go to big games.
no help from the sport authority, still it could be worse

If we see the talent pool in the shape of a pyramid, with the best at the top, we know for sure that that is the least mass that the government can show their attention on, for the sake of saying something is being done.
A lecturer in my MBA class would say that the issues that are kept on a pending status or is under constant postponement are probably the only good issues in the interests of the public!
This lecturer had a much older student who is now a full time politician and he gave a feedback once, saying that if one has to do admnistration, he will be a nobody in pilitics aand if he has to do good politics, he has no time or want to do good administration. Maybe the state of affairs
One other problem I observed is that any process in India where people are involved grow roots of corruption (money and dishonor to work), which leads to almost all possible initiatives going a complete waste.
WIth the highest respects to our great history (Jalaluddins and Tughlags), I would still opt for a trade off on some history and get in training in fields of interests and potential - this as a basic norm in general education. Middle school when students are pretty fit and able, would be a right time to check on possible talent, be it shooting or singing...

i think that say it all, as most quit due to lack of funding equipment etc.

Politicians are the same everywhere... they'll always be there... they will come and go. That, however hides a more grave problem (IMHO)...that of bureaucrats and the related mindset that afflicts most Indians today.
