belgian sbbl
i came across a belgian sbbl, with bolt action(single shot). the dealer was asking abt 18000/ good condition. although after firing a couple of shots i was not very content with the performance, as i had to put a little effort pushing the cartr. in the chamber , also after the shot was fired the empt shell didnt relase after pulling the bolt.
only 1 catr. was shot and released flawlessly.
what do say vets.? shud i go ahead buy and get it repaired?

Ohhhhhh.......buy something for 18000 and have it repaired.Well one thing is surely assured your repeated visits to a gunsmith. For that price if you have a bit of patience and you could find something much better and if you don't mind Indian guns find a SBBL 12 Bore by GIRILAL ...its simply the best.

INR 18K for a less than perfect single shot SBBL Belgian is way too much IMHO... but it's your money and at the end of the day it's your choice to make...
Not everything "imported" is good... You can get quite decent Indian made SBBL guns for INR 5K or so... If I was in the market for a SBBL I'd get one of those and spend the rest on ammo.
Cheers!

What do you mean by thicker? If you are talking about the two barrels having a visibly different diameter at the muzzle end, then it's probably just that one has a tighter choke than the other barrel... if it's something else you are referring to, could you be more specific? Pictures would help...bullshitwalks";p="49452 wrote:although one of the barrels is thicker than the other one plz suggest.

Looking at the hammered 12 GA in your gallery --bullshitwalks";p="49478 wrote: thanx , more tips needed
One barrel is choked alright, my concern however is for the condition of the barrel from inside (whatever can be seen in the photo) I mean the cylinder barrel. I hope it is grease/lubricant.
best,
RP.
It's always better to have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it !

One barrel is choked more than the other...both will take 12 guage shots . The choked one will fire a tighter pattern of shots than the other one. It looks like one barrel does need some proper cleaning. i am not sure from pics but it looks rusted..

INR 32K for a no-name Belgian hammered shotgun with a badly rusted barrel (from the looks of it), doesn't sound like much of a bargain. I bought my Belgian boxlock (hammerless) for INR 18K in 1991, with price escalation I'd imagine one should be able to easily pick one up for INR 40K or less. A hammered gun should cost just a bit more than half of that. Of course this is merely my opinion.bullshitwalks";p="49498 wrote: that barrel did need some cleaning.my bad.
any comments how to find the manufacturing year and all.
also did i overpay?
It will be next to impossible to figure out the year of manufacture or the maker of a generic Belgian "trade gun". These were typically built in a cottage industry type set-up with many different individual artisans producing them, most of whom never added their names or any special markings to the guns they built.
Ages back I tried to find out a bit more about my own shotty, but soon gave up. The only slightly useful info I could find was that my gun was "proofed" at Liege - which means nothing in of itself.
Cheers!
