Do we have any IFG members with Big Bore accessibility in Kerala. I would love to give it a shot this time, if I could...

Did you win the lottery or are you not aware what it costs to rent a rifle and ammo?

Just recalled you had a contact in the BSF... Arrange a rifle and ammo for me and I will take you fishing this coming weekend.

Tried calling all three BSF contacts (Two have left the service), to no avail.
Must try my Army contacts tomorrow...

I was led to believe that the big bore event has been scrapped indefinitely from the NSCC! In fact from what I heard a large number of people who qualified last time around (shot the MQS) were not issued import permits :?

Cheers!

That's bad news. Have sent one of my friends in the NRAI an sms asking him if this is true.

Abhijeet,

The 300 metre comps are still on. This year's event will be held at Mhow in October.

Any idea if the other rumour about a large % of renown shots (from the last NSCC) were denied import permits?

Cheers!

Diskaon,

The actual participation fee is a few hundred Rupees but if you don't own a rifle, then borrowing a rifle and ammo from certain private parties or the police (the latter are not supposed to lend), will cost a minimum of Rs. 40,000.00 for borrowing from a private party or Rs.15,000.00 if you borrow from the police. Earlier the police would lend a rifle and ammo for Rs.5,000.00. Infact, the Rs.15,000.00 figure is a couple of years old and they may be asking for more now. Also, bear in mind that if you borrow from the police, the rifle you have used and sighted on the practice day may not be what is given to you for the comp.

The cost of a year's practice is only applicable to those who own a medium bore rifle (any calibre over 8 mm is not permitted), the market rate for your particular choice of ammo and access and travel cost to a 300 metre range. 300m ranges for civilians are few and far between in India.

I did not ask this and unless you can give me more details about the source/s of this rumour and the reason/s given, I'd rather not ask.

Rusty

I am one of the shooters who have been denied the import permit for this year.I shot a 100 in the Mens skeet match and the MQS was supposed to be 90.I stood 27th and did apply for the import permit.

Last month I heard from the NRAI that they have not yet received the actual G.O. copy for the MQS score from the ministry and so there will not be any import permits given to the MQS shooters.Only the top 25 will get their imports as usual.

Ashar,

Thanks for clarifying the real reason. One should have guessed that it was a bureaucratic hic-cup causing this problem.
