Re: Hunting is the meanest action by humans!
Nice post SHooter. Good introspection and awareness, I see
And adding to my earlier post, I was just wondering if people would still go hunting if the animals were just as capable and used big bore guns with nice sights, aimed at our brains in the bottom for maximum points .. That would be true sport, right?
For kicks:
And drawing huge parallel lines, would it not be a better sport to hunt terrorists instead of the minimal left over species? Just imagine... able bodied troop of hunters gunning down armed terrorists in their own haven!

bhai, try going wildfowling at -8 degrees.
on top of that, try getting stuck in mud (daldal)- i did.
in my shoot 1 death a year occours. to go there one has to pass through a route (in lincolnshire) which has been marked a red route as there were 30 deaths in a month due to fog.
who needs animals with rifles to get killed.
bro please tell australia team not to play canada ever in cricket as it would not be true sport.
2 sides shooting each other is not sport; its called war, since you insist on word play.
Bro i say again: hunting is not i repeat, not shooting down or killing. thats why butchers arent called hunters.
It is observing a quarry, stalking it etc etc.
to hunt terrorists, one should have necessary training etc in that dept. I think i am aware there are terrorist hunting schools present but they are called by different names like army, commandos etc.
to practice on deer and then 'hunt' terrorists is the same as a wildfowler going to shoot a maneater with his shotgun.
just worth mentioning: many insurance companies dont cover health insurance for travelers if they are going to africa to hunt big game.
I dont think they do that to soldiers.
(For the record, i am by no means comparing a shikari to a soldier. I respect soldiers and their valour.)

You want more gun control? Use both hands!

is hunting mean? many have given the answer to this. so one can judge what the members of this forum believe in.
i hunt, i hunt for the pot. not to waste meat, i hunt with thought and care.
For me protection of wildlife is important not in the sense that i can hunt them, hunting is there, what is more challenging then stalking up to feet's of a dear?
looking at the animals at close range. Many people i know love to sit with dears taking pic and not shoot them, they are top dear hunters in the south of England.
i believe in caring for the wild animals thus i belong to BASC and BDS. Who spend money and time in the welfare of animals.
i live in a community of hunters, where trees are aplenty, wildlife zero. how sad.
why? the locals love to hunt so they hunted all that moved. But did noting to replace or protect these animals.
Now thats mean.

Re: Hunting is the meanest action by humans!
Shooter,
With all the analogy you gave, I can easily conclude that there is no difference in challenges faced between a hunter and a wild-life photographer. So, please do go ahead with your 'getting stuck in mud' and 'observing a quarry, stalking it etc etc' with a camera, instead of a gun. By what you quote and attest, it should make no difference.
Now, that is one side of the argument, while what nagarifle says - 'i hunt, i hunt for the pot. not to waste meat, i hunt with thought and care' is something every human would have to respect.
Being broad minded does not necessarily mean Acknowledgement. It can be Alignment without complete Acknowledgement too.
The virtue of an argument lies in seeing the other side of the story too, not just personal views.
I dont mean to deman, but mean well

Re: Hunting is the meanest action by humans!
I don't think African wildlife or for that matter any other country's wildlife is saved or conserved because of hunters who hunt for food.. stores are full of meat nowdays..you can get what you want..
So enough defending why we hunt.. we hunt because we like it.. we like to be in wild not with the camera but with my gun... if its legal I am going to do it and I care two hoots about bleeding hearts.

Inder,
Please dont take anything in a harsh manner. Nothing in this post is personally against anyone. As log as we all believe in this, we can have a healthy argument

TenX,
From your previous posts I gather that while you acknowledge the rationale behind controlled hunting, personally you are against in principle taking a life and definitely not for sport.
I gather that your premise is should the hunted and the hunter were equal in their power, there will not be any hunting.Right?Have you ever seen on National Geographic or Discovery channels a single Lion hunting an elephant?Do you know of any country that went to war against a bigger power to conquer them or just for the kicks?Equality is desirable but the world is being what is is, it will never be.Attempts were made to achieve equality among humans so that there will not be exploitation. We know what happened.Don't we?
Inequality and differences in capacity are facts and the best possible thing is to decrease the ill effects of it.Same applies to administration of the natural life too.Hate to reduce the entire animal kingdom to the word "natural resources".But, in practical terms, manage them. Man hunted animals through out the history and it is in the nature of some men to hunt even though there is no need to hunt for food. If it helps in conserving the eco-systems of the world, so be it.Sounds harsh? Probably. But,practical.Even where sport hunting is replaced by "sport-photography", animal population control is in place. How is it done?By gently persuading the animals not to breed?I am sure you must have seen the elephant culls.

No sport in there. But, again auction off them to sport hunters and use the money for conservation. Why not.
I also see certain moral smugness only the self-righteous and the impractical idealists can have with reference to their deviant brethren. We all have our different approaches to morals and ethics yet we can agree within a broad spectrum of practicable, rational and pragmatic parameters; we all can have our respective morals uncompromised but co-existing without looking down upon each other.I have quite a few complaints with many hunting methods that are legal. But, I accept that they do it differently and as long as that is legal and practical, why not?
Picture this.
1. No hunting/culling at all and care to guess what happens to the deer population? There is a video link on this very forum.
2.Uncontrolled hunting, poaching, market hunters etc, we already lost countless species.
3.With properly placed regulations, scientific management of wildlife etc, Inder et al will have their forests full of beasts they can hunt with their guns, bows, hands, teeth etc and TenX with his Roliflex.
Which one do you want?
As for Rottlord, we would appreciate if you could abstain in future from hurling abuses at hunters and expecting us to understand you by reading between the scant few ill-written lines of gobbledygook. If you want to genuinely discus something in which you believe or have strong views about, please go ahead and post we are very open to discussions.Persuade us as we certainly will.
Best-
Vikram
Pee why yes: Why am I getting this constant picture in my mind that TenX is facing off a charging Cape Buffalo,a ton of enraged thews and sinews and the darkly glinting steely lunule of its horns.Lo behold, what does he have in his hands? A London Best in .577 Nitro double or just his hands and a silent prayer to his maker? (Sorry mate.Couldn't resist it)

Re: Hunting is the meanest action by humans!
Omigod.. That was a long post.. :Heh Heh:
I have only one suggestion for you shooter - If you cant handle a healthy argument or discussion, it would be best if you would do something else, instead of throwing personal abusive remarks and directing people what not to do...
Please do read on, if you would still care to...
I did like the way you put in your points. Cant disagree that it was presented well. But still, how does accusing/condemning someone benefit? ... This is not a matter of impractical idealness etc etc, but a forum where opinions and views are 'shared'. Many a times, we all assume that there is only two ways about anything, and later on, realize that something else should/could have been done. I am on neither's side, but am proposing views for a better vision in understanding each other.
Tell me, would you feel nice if someone threw abuses at you just because they did not appreciate your point. That is nowhere a mature thing to do, especially on an online forum which is viewed by many.
We have had several discussion thrown away by transgressing into inappropriate postings. Let us aviod that. The quality of a discussion lies in making the other person see your point of view, while being equally capable of viewing the other person's.
I am for properly placed regulations, and for control of the eco-balance by ensuring certain species dont tip the scale. I have already mentioned this earlier.
I refuse to get into any direct and personal negative discussion, and request all others to correct me if I am wrong.

Please stop creating new threads for every reply and I am not a very well known Hunter in INDIA for that matter I am not even a hunter in INDIA and I love ex hunters untill they start preaching others to not to do something which they enjoyed in their young years..
