Re: Woof!!
I love German S (have 2 of them) and Labbys. I feel a pug would be best, but please dont take my biased views
It would be best to first get to know what your mom likes. That way, we atleast have one card placed straight when it comes to showing love. My point is that if you give a dog which your mom may not like so much, it may not be in the best of interests, and her opinion is most important.
WHat you will have to consider is:
1. Training/Walking/Running - which is amust have for some dogs like G.S and Labs. Could cause a strain on your mum.
2. Shedding/Maintaining (Tics, etc) - which are part of the package for some dogs like G.S, Pomnerians etc. Boxers drool all over all the time. Could cause a strain, in ters of general maintenance.
3. Mutual Affection (Friendly) - Dogs like Labs and Fox Terriers aim to please the host more often than others. These dogs are very homely and 'understand' the master/mistress to a great extent.
4. Alertness/Bravado - Again, some dogs (GS, Labs, Boxers, etc) almost 'own' complete protection of those they love.
5. Health - Some dogs are known for different types of sickness, especially given various climatic conditions. I know of a GS who dies in Udupi after spending a marvellous winter, unable to take the summer heat. A close pal of mine, in Mangalore, had to install an a/c because everyone advised him to but a Saint Bernard and he later found out that the poor thing could not take the heat!
Some questions to ask your self are:
How much space do you have?
How much exercise and care time do you have for the dog
What size is good?
Where is the dog going to be living?
How much grooming do you want to do?
Do you have the experience to deal with a more challenging dog?
If you have children how will the dog be with them?

One last peice of advice - Please dont buy a dog because it looks 'sooo cuuute' - all puppies look cute. Think of what you require to do a year later :Heh heh:

Agree 100% with TenX. Owning a dog is a big responsibility.. so don't just buy a dog on the cuteness factor.. I had one small pomerian/spitz mix and two GSD's. Little Bu$$er was tough to handle than the GSD's.

I must say excellent advise by our very own Dus Numbari and he must be speaking from the heart abt Simba & Honey.
My advise once again is to go in for a "Smooth Fox Terrier".
Cheers Rohit.

Black Lab is what you should go for SidKid, if you ask me. Put it through obedience training over the years and you wont have to worry about manageability when full grown. Its the most intelligent among the lot and when trained should be perfect for your needs.
If you are not going for a small pup, then make sure the older dog is obedience trained.

i totally agree to you sir.. and also open to other suggestion, but you see apart from looking for just a cute pup or something else i'm looking for a dog who is healthy and something my mother could handle.perazzi";p="49096 wrote: I must say excellent advise by our very own Dus Numbari and he must be speaking from the heart abt Simba & Honey.

But a healthy dog is something that is a must...
The very reason i am not buying a dog from one of those pet shops had a bad experience, lost a lab to Parvo about a year back so waited for a year just for this because it takes from 6 months to an year in some cases for the parvo virus to die....
So seriously i dont care if i have to wait for sometime or pay a little extra but i refuse to buy a pup from a pet store..
someone known to someone here or someone who is willing to give a pup up for adoption is what i am looking for
Cheers
Siddharth

Oh yes on the training mode i must add that in a lighter vein , everyone in my house was involved in the training of our little Fox Terrier ( Trigger ) and the resultant is that everyone now is well trained to cater to all the whims and fancies of Trigger !!! and Trigger offcourse is thrilled to bits
Cheers

Re: Woof!!
Sid,
A good breed that you seem to have failed to notice is the Golden Retreiver, provided your mother has some spare time to groom the dog. Real wonderful breed and can be a pleasure to own. Also, I agree with you on the pet store issue with you. Best thing to do would be to contact your local kennel club in Delhi and ask them for some breed specific breeder referalls.

Re: Woof!!
I would say this breed is a great companion, easy to care for, intelligent, loyal, great health and immunity. Great all round dogs especially in a city.
Regards,
Yaj.
PS: Congrats on the new Rottie pup Bops!

Dear, I was watching this post since begining. Perrazi, Ranjeet Singh & TenX have given the best suggestions. I hope you must have made up your mind by now about the type of the dog to have.Sid_kapur30";p="49108 wrote:i totally agree to you sir.. and also open to other suggestion, but you see apart from looking for just a cute pup or something else i'm looking for a dog who is healthy and something my mother could handle.perazzi";p="49096 wrote: I must say excellent advise by our very own Dus Numbari and he must be speaking from the heart abt Simba & Honey.

I have one mutt puppy to be adopted if you are intersted. Believe me they are the best dogs to have. Very intelligent, hardy, highly trainable & agile. I also have highly pedigreed dogs as well & I give their puppies to deserving homes against very handsome donations to animal welfare organizations.
You can see my DEVIL, ANGEL & SPARTAN here.
Just give me a PM if you are interested & I will call you back.
Thanks,
Karizman
