Shotgun manufacturing in India?
Does government allow new plants to be set up for shotgun manufacturing in India. I have a feeling that there is a crying need for couple of units with some state of the art CNC machines and good metal / working equipment to manufacture O/U & side by side shotguns and single shot rifles.

Ashok,
It may be possible. Atleast, I haven't read or come across any rule that precludes setting up of such an unit.
I don't know about the technicalities involved in getting permission in setting up a shotgun factory but if you or someone you know is thinking about setting up a plant to make good shotguns, I wish you all the very best. I would buy.

I am not sure if the financials are OK but it can be done. I will write to the concerned department in HP as see what they say.
Our manufacturing companies are getting benchmarked against the best in the world so why firearms must be made in Munger Jail ??? !!!

Re: Shotgun manufacturing in India?
hi everyone,
There is a company called "Rajput Gun Factory" in Rewa(M.P),they make 12gauge shotguns, both single barrel double barrel.i went there and saw the whole process of making these shotguns.only 10 workbenches, some lethe machines, some grinders in a 60X80ft hall.
it was a good experience to see how weapons are made.
Regards
Raj

Re: Shotgun manufacturing in India?
Things will change very soon. A prominent maker from Europe is exploring the idea of setting up a manufacturing unit in Uttarkhand. I am his sort of consultant.
In the studies made, there is a huge defecit in production as well as quality.
All kinds of products are planned. Cheap, reliable and simple shotguns and bolt action rifles for security agencies - including pvt. security agencies, there is a huge demand in this sector.
Supplies of Pistol / Revolver to Govt. sector.
Supply of sporting guns to budding shooters in the civilian market.
We are working on clearances for the project.
If not Uttarkhand, even Haryana or some Jail permises in Haryana is acceptable ( The govt. is suspecious of security of pvt. manufacturers or whatever ).
Paperwork, licences, permissions - well it is the mother of all licences.
The project is at a basic stage with very little progress.
Assembly would be on a CKD unit basis with value addition here in India, with little tooling equipment initially.
Lets see as to whether we succeed or fail.

Re: Shotgun manufacturing in India?
From what I have heard even Navin Jindal had tried for a gun manufacturing license, but was denied as the MHA is no longer issuing clearances for any new manufacturers. If someone as well connected as Mr. Jindal was denied, I would think that there is very little hope for others...

Re: Shotgun manufacturing in India?
sir,
If people in jammu / munger are inhereting manufacturing units froms there parents ,then I think if a person is serious enough to manufacture high quality sporting shortguns than one can become partner in existing manufacturing unit .( & slowly and steadly that person becomes minority partner in bussiness deed and retires)
Otherwise I have good contact with advocates in Punjab & haryana high court, I , will try to ask them this question from legal point of view.
regards

Re: Shotgun manufacturing in India?
I have 2 guns of Santookhoo gun works I have posted about their performance earlier these r good guns with greater reach but only negative point is that in modern version there is no ejector and u will feel recoil due to its force unlike the other guns like rajput ,modern, mehar singh but metal of santokoo is best apart from these big factories there r small manufacterers also whose products of shotguns can be better than big units .Apart from jammu guns r also manufactured in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh these were set by british manufacterer before 1947 but later gave rights to key workers now they r the owners people speak highly of these guns also.
cheers
