I liked the baitcasting outfit you were using-- one can cast farther with lesser effort.
It will cast even further when I gain more experience and start disengaging the centrifugal brakes, in pairs. Also, the line being used is thicker than most for the given breaking strength. I recall Sahadev telling me that he could cast across the Cauvery from Crocodile Rock with 40 lb mono.
But was unable to figure why you had problems casting from the coracle.
Since there are usually two more people in the coracle besides me and that I very often have to twist around or cast around the others to get a clear casting path adds more strain. This holds good with spinning reels as well but I am a lot more familiar with those. It's probabaly just a matter of getting more familiar with baitcasters.

The largest murrel I have caught was on 25th June 2006 and weighed a measured 4.25 kgs. On 23th February 2008 I hooked into the biggest one I have seen to date with a lure GG had given me but he shook it off with a big leap out of the water. I only had a fleeting glimpse of this fish but would estimate the weight to be in the 6 kg region.

I would like to have the names of those members who are removing large murrel and those who want to remove all the murral from both lakes.

I was thrilled when you caught that 5 kg murral at the cottage lake recently because we haven't seen many murral there, leave alone big ones, for a long time. It used to be just the reverse in 2006 when one round of that lake would produce anything between half-a-dozen to a dozen murrel.

The new rule of four fish per person per day regardless of weight (mahseer excluded) is ridiculous and needs to be reversed. The problem is that those who are against this new practice do not voice their objection other than making self righteous and pious statements on IA. The only way to contain the meat collectors is to have a reduced bag limit and bring in some harsh disciplinary action.

C'mon Rusty, that just happned instincts you know..... :D :D

BTW What you think about this

You don't have to depend upon the ghilles and have more space to cast all around. I think they can be used at Forbes as well as cottage lake not sure about headworks because of rocks etc and extremely portable also...

Pity that your thinking process is not as instinctive. If looks could have killed, you would be dead.
BTW What you think about this
It has two disadvantages - punctures and the ability to fish in the current. Oh yes... and let's not forget the crocs. Chomp, chomp...

P.S.: Tomorrow's trip looks iffy at the moment. With the phones going down I am not sure if I will be able to contact you. Use this thread to communicate any developments...assuming they don't cut the internet connections.

Are you addressing Binu?
I would like to have the names of those members who are removing large murrel and those who want to remove all the murral from both lakes.
..and give them a friendly advise on conservation?

Thanks Mack The Knife...
Even guards were surprised :o when I had landed the 5kg Murral from the cottage lake ,as they were tellin that there aren't many large murrals in that lake,

Good to see that WASI came with the new rule :D of taking fishes below 2.5kg for Pot,well thats a good begining ,but they still need to mention Number of fish :? to be taken.

Last sunday..had been to WASI cottage with my Noisy friends 8) s for a day & thanks to Mack The Knife :D ,who let me fish in forbes inspite of 1day fishing he had been there with Inder,

Had caught 7 Murrals in an Hr & the next morning landed another 7 from there & 3 from cottage lake all from 0.5kg to 2.5 kg,in forbes hooked on to a monster Murral who cut my 20lb Braid :( & took my Frog :? ,(should have loosen the drag),

Total Catch of the day
17 Murrals ,
1 Rohu of 4.75kg,(Cottage lake)
3 Mahseer 1-2.5kg(Headworks)
& carnatic Carp-1.5kg,,(Cottage lake)
Waiting to get the Pic's from My friends Cam. :?
A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work :)

Binu, that's excellent fishing but I'm pretty pissed off that you removed the life jacket despite my warning you about this. I am not interested in any of your reasons, just make sure you have one on when fishing from the coracle. Next time I'll lodge a formal written complaint against you and the guard/s who are permitting this with WASI.

Rusty maybe a good idea to do this ticking off via a PM. Am pretty sure i wud not like getting ticked off on an open forum nd maybe Binu does'nt either.

Hope you will take this in the right spirit nd not come back wth a nasty rejoinder as i am just being candid without any malicious intent.

regds Rohit.

Rohit,

Quick question for you - why didn't you send that message via PM?

Could it be you found it quicker to post on the main board? Hmmm....

Most of my ticking-off is done on the board so that others (or at least a few more) don't make the same mistake. Believe me, it's decidedly tedious doing the same ruddy ticking-off day-in and day-out via PM.
