Most Chinese shooting things you'll encounter in India, will be of decent quality. Not super-stuff yet not lame junk. The designs being mostly unoriginal and uninspired are very simple in terms of technology and manufacture thus putting in a bit of quality doesn't come at too high a premium.

Another good thing with them is they're all pretty robust and can take a lot of abuse and are cheap...that's why they are so popular with the wrong side of the law.

I'd hazard a guess that almost all legal Chinese made pistols in the country would be the NorincoM20 the tidied up Chinese copy of the Soviet Tokarev TT33...most would have been the former property of the illegals.

I have reservations for Chinese products that are straight-away exported to India.

It is a different story if they are being re-routed from any other country or being manufactured to specifications of a reputed international manufacturer.

i would agree with olly on this. quilt y control +lack of skilled labour and cheap material leads to lack of standard and poor products.

from my knowledge most pistols come via Thailand/Burma and goes into the hands of the anti-establishment elements.

so how can they be sold legally in the market?

once the security forces capture it.

then i think, i could be wrong in this, they can be had by the forces as private arms and they sell it legally.

i am sure others can give much better insight to this.

Well the source will depend on the region. The North East and a large chunk of the east is influenced by the Myanmaar, Thailand, Bangladesh triangle. Most this side will thus be original Norincos.

Up North and West and - which is most of the Indian land mass will be influenced by the Pakistan, Darra, Nepal market. I put Darra as a separate entity from Pakistan due to it's unique position in the market- they produce their own "Chinese made" stuff :)

Of course lots have filtered through beyond their respective regions of influence.

Most, if not all Chinese made hardware in the 'legal' market follow a similar route:

1)Arms bazaar/clandestine supply
2)Insurgents/criminals/militants/terrorists
3)Seizure/capture
4)Maalkhana
5)Auction/allotment to babus, netas, and sena for a few hundred bucks to a couple of thousands
6)Selling to dealers at a big profit(Though its apparently disallowed)
7)Dealers selling for an even more outrageous profit
8)You the unlucky enthusiast

cc

Well Sir

In the Kanpur -Agra region, an outlaw can get his hands on a chinese pistol (9mm) for Rs 15k to Rs25k.

Depending on the condition of the firearm and auction procedures an legal piece (7.68 mm )maybe in the range of Rs 80k to Rs 1.5k. But this is a rough estimate.

Cheers !
