I do not know of any commercial supplier in India but if you could have someone bring you one from the U.S., then I would recommend the Estwing 13" or 16" camping axe.
These are also available at Cabelas but unfortunately they will not post this item to India.
Can these be imported directly by anyone by Courier? What is the link and the procedure?
Will there be any customs objections? Please help me on the above.
Thanks

SSK, the axe I was interested in can be seen here http://tinyurl.com/5szkc9
You may also consider buying

or
http://tinyurl.com/6a37nb
The complete range available with Cabelas can be viewed at http://tinyurl.com/5q66kt
Since Cabelas wont ship this item to India you will either have to order it and send it to a friend or relative or ask the same to buy and ship it to you. If a courier or USPS refuse to carry the item, then you will have to rely on someone to bring it to India.

I have this one. I bought for about $25 on sale. I wonder if they'll ship to India.

The knife slides into the handle of the axe and is held there by magnets.
I took it to deer hunting camp last year and we used it to chop some wood for the fire pit and it worked fine.

Thanks for the links and advise Mack The Knife, I checked with my freinds in US but they seem to be mortally afraid of sending any such things to india let alone carry it with them! I have decided to build my own with a detachable/replaceable bit and handle. This is because I cannot get the local blacksmith to properly shape one for me with a handle.Mack The Knife Bana";p="46479 wrote:SSK, the axe I was interested in can be seen here http://tinyurl.com/5szkc9

Re: Hand axe for Camping
I second the advice of looking for local black smiths. I bought an axehead at Abohar in Punjab from a roadside blacksmith.Strong hand forged and tempered blade, with handle added and sharpening cost me the princely sum of 75 Rs. Best deal I ever made.
