Some people had it in Bihar too. I am not sure how but it was converted to conventional fro self loading by some local gunsmiths and then classified as NPBore.

Can't you get PB guns transfered under inheritance law..i.e. a PB gun can be transfered from parents to their children ?

This is going to go slightly OT, but to answer your question - Yes you can! In fact that's probably the only route possible for most private individuals.

However, the process remains the same in such cases as well - you put in your application at your local licensing authority stating your need/ reason as "transfer of heirloom basis". They will process the application, do the police verification etc., then if they approve they will forward the file to the State Home Ministry which in turn will review it and if approved at that level it will be forwarded to the Min. of Home Affairs, Govt. of India. Once again they will review the file and either approve it and issue the arms license or deny the application.

Which is why most people do not bother to pursue PB licenses - as they need approval at 4 levels (in stead of 2)

1. Police Verification
2. Local licensing authority
3. State Home Ministry
4. Min. of Home Affairs, Govt. of India

In such cases if the license is issued it is issued for ONLY that particular firearm which is being inherited, and will therefore be clearly marked as - "Arms & ammunition that the Licensee is entitled to possess" - .30 Carbine Serial No. xxxxx OR .455 Webley & Scott Revolver Serial No. xxxx IN STEAD OF what one would usually expect for e.g. PB revolver/ pistol OR PB SBBL Gun OR PB Rifle.

Therefore you cannot later sell said firearm and then acquire another PB firearm on the same license. If you sell/ transfer/ gift it - your basis for owning a PB firearm under the inheritance clause is no longer valid and they will not renew your license/ allow you to purchase another PB firearm in lieu of the one you have sold/ transferred/ gifted.

Cheers!

it can be done, provided the weapon has been in the family for more than 25 years.

WOW!! One has to go through too many levels and too much beuorocracy to get even the inherited firearms. Govt are supposed to make things easier but looks like in India getting anything done is a monumental task in itself.

Having a 30 carbine on your license is tough and even if you manage to get one endorsed on your firearms license under inheritance clause have you ever given a thought where would you get the ammunition from. The 30 carbine firable ammunition is hard to find and even if you manage to locate some the prices would be exorbitant......

So it would be much better to get a firearm whose ammunition is freely available

For servicemen/ ex-servicemen ammo can be procured directly from the army depot's - it's marked WCC (Western Cartridge Co. USA) and works out cheaper than KF .22 LR ammo! Of course this option would not be available to most...
