gunsmithing

Post by ronish » Fri Jun 20, 2008 12:58 am

hi.. mates.
today i was in search for moly grease, visited many lube dealers but didnt find any brand which contains molybdenum di sulphide. almost all brands specified only its uses such as ,can be used in bearings, axles , chains , etc. but none specified its components.
at one shop i came across a brand called NULON--L80 ,& specified it is LITHIUM based with PTFE.

is this brand recommended for lubing internal components? pls shed sugestions on this . ronish

Hi Rustom,
Here in chennai, I have checked with the supplier and the are willing to sell Molly and Silicone paste both. 500 gm could be a qt. They have asked me which grade should I need and I am lost there. Could you help me? The supplier link is as follows:

Nulon is additive for automobiles ,one part is mixed with 4ltr petrol,it improves engine power.
Litium greese is easlily availble if you check hardware/automobile shops ,it comes in spray type container ,,product from WD40,i am using it since many years.best lubricant for storage.

Tirths,

I have no idea about the grades that Moly come in. Buying the best of the lot should be a safe bet. Alternatively, do a Google search on the subject.

As for silicone oil/paste, ask for acid free silicone.

Hi Ronish, this grease is called "Molycote" and has excellent Protective properties against most environments. We use this in our assembly of valves regularly. I will get you the specs later today.
