Hi Sanjiv
Mr Prasad will not answer the post as he is fearing from IFG member's question. You can also have a look on his previous thread.
http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?t=3051
Infact he don't have the answers. As abhijeet quoted in his above post that "commercial imports of airguns is NOT allowed" then how can he is doing this. Any one can called himself a diana's dealer but only if our government allows commercial import of air rifles. If he is your friend then kindly ask him to log in and answer this post.

RWS is NOT the same as Diana! RWS are exclusive importers/ distributors for Diana in USA but as Shahid mentioned they also import and distribute guns made by other manufacturers. Something similar to Beeman which imports and distributes Weihrauch airguns from Germany as well as models from China all sold under their own (Beeman's) name in USA.b.baracho";p="45786 wrote: Are rws Diana also made in China ?

Diana of Germany is the manufacturing company and AFAIK they make ALL of their airguns in Germany and NO WHERE else. The statement about Chinese made Diana's by the gentleman from Gunmark/ G Smith is clearly intended to confuse people...
Cheers!

Re: Importing airguns into India
Saw a statement in the article saying 'importing .22 airguns should not be a problem'. FYI, .22 airguns are categorized as FIREARMS by the Customs. I strongly suggest that importing .22 airguns not be attempted. The provisions and exemptions by the MYAS and Customs are only .177 airguns.

I saw the article on import of airguns. I am quite certain that .22 airguns are categorized as 'firearms' so far as import is concerned. Hence, to make a statement in the article that might potentially lead to the arrest of any person attempting to import such an airgun is incorrect in my opinion. I've posted what I felt should be done immediately, and in case you agree with me, kindly take appropriate measures.

This is rubbish! All airguns which comply with the stipulated power restriction (as per the deal wood penetration test) are EXEMPTED from all provisions of the Arms Act/ Arms Rules.ai";p="45877 wrote: Click Here to go to the reported post
--------------------------------

Dear Moderators,

Airguns which are over this power limit require an arms license IRRESPECTIVE of whether they are .22 or .177 cal.
The confusion seems to stem from the fact that the duty exemption notification and permission for club members to directly import airguns without any license/ permission is ONLY for .177 cal airguns. This was done to enable people to import competition airguns and the calibre restriction on such imports is .177 as this is the calibre used in competitions... that's all~!!!
This DOES NOT suddenly make .22 cal airguns into firearms! They simply cannot be imported other than by returning passengers AND duty WOULD BE charged as per customs rules.
PLEASE REFRAIN from misinformed scaremongering here it leads to needless speculation and confusion.
Cheers!
Abhijeet

I fully understand the situation. There runs deep confusion. The police and custome personnel of India who are very unfamiliar with shooting sports of any kind frequently confuse between .22 LR and a .22 calibre Air Rifle which is called n0. 2 Air Rifle calibre as well by many users.
Do not post such ridiculous facts, it will further confused a very confused set of people.
How can an air rifle ever be classified a firearm.
If it exceeds Me level by way of a wood plank test as specified then an arms licence may be mandatory, but that is another issue.
All the competition grade air rifles, all these Dianas HWs and similar products will be withinn the specified Me / Mv range.

Re: Importing airguns into India
Well friends, what I've mentioned is based on information from no less than a customs commissioner himself. In any case, classification of .22 airguns as firearms can be verified from a Baggage Rules manual, available easily at relevant book stores such as Jaina, CP, Delhi.
How an airgun can be classified is as simple to understand as is method of judging the power of a gun by firing it into a substance as unpredictable as wood! I agree that the authorities concerned are probably unaware of a simple gadget called a chronograph, and maths to find M.E. may be beyond them, but the fact is that we do have some wierd laws.
By the way, can we have the source of your information based on which we can ascertain if .22 calibre ariguns are not restricted for import?
Also, I know about the wood penetration test- it pertains to guns already within India, not during import. For import, MYAS, Customs and Baggage rules apply. I'd have no hesitation to apologize to all on this site in case my information turns out to be incorrect.

Airguns which pass the deal wood test are exempted from ALL PROVISIONS of the Arms Act!
The Central Government in exercise of its power conferred upon it under Section 41 of the Arms Act had issued a notification bearing No. G.S.R 991 dated 13-7-1962 whereby and where under it had excluded arms and ammunition of the de.scriptions specified in Column (1) of Schedule II annexed thereto from certain provision of the Act and subject to conditions mentioned therein. Air Guns, Air Rifles and Air Pistols, which find their place at serial No. 3 of the said Schedule II, have completely been exempted from the purview of the provisions of the Arms Act.
There is no mention within this notification of calibre restrictions - merely the fact that these air guns, air rifles & air pistols MUST satisfy the deal wood test.
Since air guns, air rifles & air pistols that satisfy these conditions DO NOT fall within the purview of the arms act, their import by returning passengers (as part of baggage) was NEVER banned and they continued to/ continue to flow into the country irrespective of the calibre. Till 2005 when the import of .177 calibre air guns, air rifles & air pistols was allowed for members of rifle associations/ shooting clubs this was the ONLY way air guns, air rifles & air pistols made their way into the country as commercial imports WERE AND STILL ARE banned - air guns, air rifles & air pistols are still on the restricted list of imports under the current EXIM policy document. As mentioned earlier on in this thread their are ONLY TWO ways to import air guns, air rifles & air pistols into India - via personal baggage for returning passengers AND directly via post/ courier by members of shooting clubs/ rifle associations - the latter being restricted to .177 cal the former NOT.
Just because someone is a Customs Commissioner does NOT mean that he/ she is an expert on airguns or firearms and related legalities. I would request you to show me/ quote here the exact clause in the manual you have mentioned stating that .22 calibre air guns, air rifles & air pistols are FIREARMS.
Cheers!
Abhijeet
