Walther Shotgun ?????
Experts,
Has Walther made 12ga side by side shotguns in past? From the net I have found a reference of a combination gun ( side by side) and a reference that Walther made semi-auto shotguns between 1921-1931 ( which in fact came as a huge surprise to me).
The reason I am asking this is that a "Walther" SXS shotgun has shown up in a near by township and is on sale . Since I do not know whether it is a genuine firearm or just a stamped one , I am asking this question.
best,
RP.

It's always better to have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it !

Re: Walther Shotgun ?????
hi doc,
as per the information i gathered from gun books, in 1886 carl walther opened a firearms workshop in which he manufacture hunting and skeet rifles.but he was mainly interested in building of autoloaders,a novelty in those days.In 1908 he launched his first pistol in 6.35mm(.25 ACP).simply called the model 1. Model 2 to model 5 followed in the years up to 1915. Carl walther died in 1915, and his three sons who had been trained by their father, took over the running of the company. After first world war(1918) walther switched to the manufacture of shotguns and small calibre rifles.so, this may be possible that this one belongs to that lot,and you may be getting a piece of history.take care.

Re: Walther Shotgun ?????
Yes, Walther made SxS shotguns, along with airguns, smallbore rifles, and semi-auto pistols, and flare pistols. The semi-auto shotgun was shortlived. The SxS was a solid and robust shotgun, though no Purdey. The smallbore rifles were bolt action; and a comibation semi-auto/bolt action, usable as semi-auto or manual repeater. Post WWII, airguns, smallbore sporting and target rifles, .22 Long Rifle and .22 Hornet, a big-bore bolt action for a few years, sub-machine guns, semi-auto sniper rifle, and semi-auto pistols. Cheers.
