So if theres no duty and the govt wants to encourage the sport then why all this drama of noc etc and running up and down for a 177.A big kitchen knife is more lethal and you can buy that freely.
Also can someone inform me on the availability of scuba tanks for pcp rifles, do the ranges/clubs provide pressurised air etc THANX

Hi David.
Congrats on buying a HW77.
Thankfully, your ordeal, other than the commute, seems smooth. 5 days to get a work done in Govt. offices could be 'Limca-BoR-Class' :)
I am curious if the person who accompanied you from CRA was one Mr. Shareiff, was it?

ATLAST !!!!

I got my Hw77k ( .177) Released from Customs yesterday with out any trouble and NO DUTY !!!!!!!!!!
My Job in done now.. Happy out with the Beauty..
Thanks for all those who helped me...

WHY NO DUTY! because the BILL For the AIRGUN that I carried says its value is GBP 200 which is less than the duty free limit in india. I did not show even the new March 2008 Ammendment on Duty exempt for .177 airguns and air pistols.

The Customs Officer incharge accepted that anything within the duty free limit has no problem even with .177 or .22 airguns.. But again this depends of the individual men in white whom you meet.
This hinted me that the officer incharge has no problem even if I get a .22 the reason being he himself had a Dian .22 long time ago..

The reason why they Need a NOC from Police is to certify that (1) nothing has been converted from the original design to make it a Firearm (2) still this does not require any licence (3) If tomorrow anything illegal happence with the same airgun, then the resonsibility will be on Police rather than Customs.

The officers in the first place pretend as if they dont know anything about Airgun. They indeed know more but to make sure how much the person knows about the same they keep asking questions.

Hence next time a .22!!!!

Regards
David

This method seems to be fine for people who live in big cities with International airports.

But what about small town people who use Delhi / Bombay or Banglore only as a transit point to their final destination.

It is not easy to come to Delhi / Metro everytime to get the police certificate done.

There has to be a more universal method.

Shahid Bhai!

I do agree with your comments. At present this is like trial and error method. For someone it works out well and for someone it doesn't. I am planning to make a trip to Dubai. Is there a way to catch you on my visit sometime in end of August.

David

Hi

I got the following pellets
1. H&N field target trophy ( recommended by Mack The Knife sir ) .
2. Indeed I have a bit heavier one H&N Bracuda to try out and
3. got some Bisley Magnum...

Now I need to do the fist step of Maintenance before using it. Mack The Knife Sir said this step is more important before we use it first time. But I dont know what to do & How to do.

David

Importing .22 airgun to india as personal baggage

Post by Rahul » Thu Jul 24, 2008 7:11 pm

hi all,

plz share any LATEST experiences of importing a .22 airgun in india as PERSONAL BAGGAGE. I m very sure for .177 as i have my personal positive experiences to get it cleard in Mumbai, indai. But jst cant take any risk for .22 as the rule is not cleared.

Plz share ur experience only if u have cleared it with proper legel ways and not with tricks. As it will help not only to me but all others who r still fighting on the rule for .22 import as personal baggage.

Only latest own experiences related to the topic r appriciated.

Best Regards
Rahul
