Greetings

Post by Love2Shoot » Fri May 30, 2008 10:14 pm

Greetings!!

I've recently move to New Delhi from the U.S. I'm hoping to find some shooters here and maybe find a pistol range nearby. BTW, what are the laws for non-Indian citizens possessing/owning firearms in India?

This was discussed very recently in other topic on IFG. As a resident in India you can apply for a licence and own a firearm.

Browse through other sections here - Arms act and licencing rules topics, you will get a lot more useful information.

Welcome aboard Love2Shoot!

The only firearms ranges open to civilians in New Delhi are the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges at Tughlaqabad.

AFAIK the membership charges are INR 500 per month, to be deposited for an initial minimum of 3 months. Once you are a member you can rent out ONLY those firearms for which you hold a valid arms license - so if you have an arms license for a shotty that's what they'll rent out to you, if you have a license for a handgun you can rent one of those etc.

The guns they have available are .22 rifles, skeet guns, trap guns and .32 pistols - along with some air-rifles and air-pistols.

They DO NOT however provide any ammunition at the range, you will have to bring your own... basically you are dead in the water unless you can rope in a friend who has a valid firearms license OR you end up sticking to only airguns.

There is also an airgun only 10m shooting range in the DDA Sports Complex at Shri Fort. There is no membership requirement, you can rent a lane and an air-rifle/ air-pistol, buy targets & pellets and get straight to it.

Check out the Legal Eagle section here for information on resident aliens and arms licensing.

Some of the Delhi members get together at the range on Sundays, you may want to look out for one of those meetings and hook up with some of them to help get you started.

HTH

Cheers!
Abhijeet

If no ammunition is sold at Tughlakabad range, then how will a shooter who owns a licenced gun but wishes to practice to come up in scores develop ?

Is he expected to buy cartridges from the Delhi market and bring them along ?

If a shooter is a district / state / NRAI member, what is the annual quota endorsed on such licences for ammo ?

That is an answer that only the babus at the Sports Authority of India (which owns & runs the range) can answer....

There is no set criterion for this. Some have 250/500, some 2,500/5,000 or even 5,000/10,000 but then again some members may have the usual 25/50 or 50/100 on their licenses as well...

Delhi state members can buy ammo for range depending on the whims and fancies of the chump in charge. you are good as long as its .22 or .32.

Its better to get your own ammo.

I heard if you get the renowned shot status you can get an unlimited end.
