i wonder if they'd be worried about press publicity. esp in a country like india considering the attitude of the masses towards firearms and the attitude of sarkari depts. in general.

I think you can also sue them for what happened to your hearing, when you let the revvy ripSid_kapur30";p="43454 wrote:hand them a loaded pistol with these shells and instigate them to shoot at you.
And NO. I refuse to volunteer.
on a serious note, can the consumer court be approached in this case??

The webley .32 revolver has a marking of "3 Tons" on the left side of the barrel & it should be the pressure that the company applied to all the revolvers before its supplied to the market. Now what is the pressure applied by the IOF for their .32 revolvers we cannot find any markings except from the top the Ashok Chakra,/N.P.,/serial No,/Revolver.32"MK1,/Field Gun Kanpur,/year of Mfg. and an I.C. on the hammer left side what does it stand for Indian Caliber ? The IOF should be questioned regarding this may be they forgot to copy the "3 Tons" marking. God help the .32 IOF revolver owners.

Re: Bursting shells of .32 KF
Just a quick comment. The "3 Ton" would be service pressure, not the proof pressure, which would be higher. In British usage the service pressure that the gun was proofed for was stamped on the gun, not the actual proof pressure. In any case, the pics of the fired and split case seem to show that the chamber is considerably larger than the case. The case also seems to be quite brittle, as normally a .41 Magnum case fired in a .44 Magnum revolver, where you have .020" clearance, will not split. I have picked up a few on ranges. Most worrysome, though, are the HUGE firing pin imprints of the primers. Never seen anything quite that size. On the plus side, when a revolver blows with overloads, it's usually the by-standers, not the shooter, who gets hurt, if that's any consolation. A split case in a revolver will usually hurt neither the gun nor the shooter. Cheers.

Olly looking at the cratered primers... two things come to mind:
1. Weak brass
2. Extremely hign pressures
The cartridges were probably :
a. Under Chagred with the OAL being over Max
b. Over Charged
c. Very weak brass
d. Bad primers
e. All of the above
Takes more than a slightly split case to blow up a revolver luckily..
Check tha batch number on the ammo and avoid the next 100 batches. Or just stick to ammo known to be reliable in India.

However one looks at it, it is primarily faulty Quality Control..... The ammo stock was fresh as I mentioned earlier.
Which ammo is known to be reliable in India ? I only know of KF..
I want to take the OFB by their b*lls but there are no suggestions forthcoming on the approach... guess a simple news item to the Press Trust of India should wake them up... else they'll wait till a burst revolver with a wrecked hand comes up....

Olly,
Agree with it being a QC issue. In which case it makes KF ammo unreliable.
What else is available in India? I would presume ammo from S&B or Federal or some non-Indian company is available. Switch to that.
I dont know how much +ve efffect press coverage could have, given the general negativity towards firearms in India.

Available but there is a significant difference in price. .32 ACP or rimmed revolver round by IOF retails at Rs. 60 to 80 apiece wheras an imported round in India would cost anything from Indian Rupees 250 to 400.
This is the reason we all end up shooting Indian Ammo.
One thing I have noticed, I had about 6 rounds of .32 ACP left from 2005 stock. The electroplating on the bass case is depleted and tarnished, the cartridge looks old stock now.
Must shoot them off asap. The three boxes of 2007 production ( IOF ) I acquired this January seems to be OK.
Is ELEY Kynoch .32 ACP or Revolver round made / available in India by any chance ?
The reson to enquire is rather funny, our Bihari political kids once a little tipsy and high like to fire a few rounds after drinks. A very very dangerous proposition.
One of them after about seven drinks wanted to shoot a few Kynoch rounds in the air of whatever Pistol or revolver he had beneath his Kurta in a belt on top of the Pyjama in my honour.
The expression could easily be generic, Kynoch referring to all imported ammo regardless of the make, an Eley round these days will bear only an ICI marking. But of course our man was not exactly sober after seven drinks of large pegs.
Dangerous stuff, once again I maintain, but out of interest I would like to know whether Eley and specially Eley Kynoch ever made .32 ACP ?

I just bought Magtech for self-protection to save my hands from blowing up due to the famed KF ammo....Gents may have fired hundreds / thousands of rounds without any mishap, but the fact that this has happened EVEN ONCE, gives me reason to label it as JUNK....
When you do fire and you are 'lucky' to walk down to the target to see your shots, you discover a generous spread of over 10", spread all over the place at 25m. There is simply no consistency of the powder being filled in... BUT a KF .32 round will fire, I haven't had a dud one till date....
Magtech is nearly 190/- bucks a pop (.32 S&W L) which makes it NOT SUITABLE for plinking....

Looks like I need to invest in AAA Class stocks this year to finance my plink sessions.

Re: Bursting shells of .32 KF
Anupam,
Please write to them. At least get some feed back.....I surely agree that imported ammo is just for emergency...and its too expensive.....I would never advise anyone to use it in the normal course...
