The Mack The Knife Bug
Okie guys I guess most everybody have been getting the Mack The Knife and Asif effect for sometime now. I must confess this poor 'mizo' has also been bitten by the bug. Ever since I got my brand new fishing rod a couple of months ago and Asif sent me a couple of flies, I have been aching to try them out.
This Saturday the Mizoram Rifle Association organised a meeting at a local tourist spot approx 45 km's from Aizawl. The route crosses one of the bigger rivers of northern Mizoram and I managed to 'deflower' my brand new shakespeare rod. It's raining heavily at this time of year and the rivers are in full spate. I didn’t expect to catch anything though and guess what?? Yup I just lost a brand new fly! Had to cast from a small cliff about 10 ft over the roaring river and since I was alone I packed my stuff and attended the meeting.
Better luck next time I guess

Nice one, Jonah.
It's being out there that counts, anything else is just a bonus.
That's a gorgeous stretch you have out there.
Mack The Knife
P.S.: How did you take those pics?

The forest and the cascading rivers look gorgeous,Jonah. You are fortunate to live in a place like that.Doesn't matter at all if you lost a fly. You had a good time and that is all there to it.If you like to buy flies, try this link. They are in Madras.Oops, Chennai.

Vikram,
There is one more reputable manufacturer of fishing tackle in Chennai, Joga Rao Exports who have their office in a property that we used to own called Kamdar Buildings. Though we no longer own this property, their office is still located there and the company exports huge quantities of it's products to the US and Europe.
There is also a showroom at the intersection of Armenian Street and NSC Bose Road opposite the High Court Buildings whose name I cannot recall at the moment which offers a huge variety of fishing tackle and rods of different kinds. Not having been much of an angler, I did not evr go in, but George Town is where I grew up and I remember passing the shop on my way to school every day (St Mary's.) The shop that I would always stop at was the Hindustan Armoury in Anna Pillai Street, on my walk from my parents' place to my maternal grandparents' house at Mint Street. After the original owner died, both his sons started their own gun shops virtually next door to each other in the same building. I have no idea whether the shop still exists, but these are memories that I look back on very fondly.
Cheers!

Re: The Mack The Knife Bug
I had a problem there! Set the camera on a ledge and used the timer. Since I couldn’t use the lcd or the viewfinder It was a hit or miss situation (that’s probably why you don’t have more pics of me in the photos) Photo of the rod and my hand was one of the misses which i took advantage of.Mack The Knife wrote: P.S.: How did you take those pics?

Nice goin' Jonah. Knew you could stick to the straight and the narrow when you wanted to. Get your rod the next time you are down we'll go catch some gunny bags...no need to catch, release or photograph.
Wow didn't know Mizoram was so beautiful. You sure are lucky man.
Regards,
Dev

Re: The Mack The Knife Bug
Yup its an "ugly stick" alright. 'bout 6.5 ft and My sis got it for me from the usa. (I had asked for an airgun) The other one is a Jap make i think (Okinawa.. something) But what the heck If I get lucky once in a while maybe i can get something home for the dinner table with this one. (I hate fresh fish though)
I hear fishing is better down south Mizoram where the rivers have a direct connection to the bay of bengal and am looking forward to fishing in the river Kolodyne. (Sounds romantic!)
