Fishing at Forbes
A hard week at work and the urge to fish for more than a month had me geared up for a fishing trip this weekend. Dinesh, my friend from college was eager to join me on the trip. The lack of a spare rod and his last moment decision to join me on the trip ensured his presence as a non-fishing guest.
Excited about fishing on the WASI stretch for the first time as a member had us set out at 5 am in the morning. We reached Forbes by 7.15 am and my plans to start fishing early were spoiled by the rains which had filled the big(an understatement) potholes on the road that led to Forbes. The left half of my car- a Maruti 800 was stuck in the slush and it refused to budge as a few litres of water in the pothole leaked into the car. The next 30-40 minutes had us struggling to push the car out of the pothole and parking it at the side of the road. Our designated ghillie arrived at 8 am and we set out on the coracle spinning for murrel. An hour and a half later I caught my first murrel on a spinner. The change in weather(I guess) and the frequent snags resulted in only 2-3 bites which did not materialise. At about quarter past twelve I caught what the ghillie claimed was a 1lb Mahseer that gave a decent fight but spat the spinner when it was very close to the coracle. The next 3 hours had me fruitlessly spinning for mahseer. I missed atleast two more murrels and hooked in a 2.5kg murrel at around 3.15pm before we left for lunch. I tried spinning for Mahseer from the bank for 20-30 minutes before the ghillie asked us to leave as the skies were cloudy and it looked like it would rain anytime soon.

Re: Fishing at Forbes
Glad you made the trip. I could have gone yesterday but only came to know this on Saturday night and hence couldn't get a voucher.
When driving through waterlogged potholes try and keep one set of tyres on the relatively drier parts, even if it means that the thorns will scratch your paintwork. Never had a problem in my 800 and the only time we got stuck in mine was thanks to Gasramgandu. LOL. Which reminds me, wash that mud off before it dries because it's a real pain to get the marks off the paintwork later.
I have not received your e-mail regarding the lures you want from Cabelas...
P.S.: Just saw your PM. Will do the needful.

Mack The Knife, Doc is the fishing trip for 29th still on?

Re: Fishing at Forbes
Next time try and rock yourself out of the rut rather than spinning the wheels and if that doesn't work get the co-passenger to get out and push and don't feel bad about spraying him with mud as you break free. More so, if he was the one who got the car stuck in the first place. Right GG?One set of tyres were on the dry side. The wheels that were stuck in the waterlogged pothole dug deeper into the pothole as I struggled to get the car out.
On the way in, I had whooshed through the muck and the car obviously slipped a bit. The sheer drop on both sides did not help matters as GG insisted I go very slow on the way out aaaaand we got stuck. Silly bug*3r! Or probably not.GG's always full of ideas, what'd he do
Highly unlikely. The decision will have to keep for another week at the very least.Mack The Knife, Doc is the fishing trip for 29th still on?

Personally, I prefer going on a motorcycle if it isn't raining.
Ouch! The nice thing about a M800 is it's not too heavy and can be pushed out by 2-3 people. On the way in, I had whooshed through the muck and the car obviously slipped a bit. The sheer drop on both sides did not help matters as GG insisted I go very slow on the way out aaaaand we got stuck

Re: Fishing at Forbes
Thanks for sharing Pra(v v)n .Good show. You getting stuck brought me back memories when I got stuck in the mud, twice, on the same day, in my dad's Ambassodor on a somewhat similar expedition.
No kidding, I once partially lifted a Maruti 800 on its side, using my legs and resting my back against it.Tried it on the Amby when we were stuck, the bumper came off and almost popped a couple of discs in the back. Those were the days.
Have fun.-
