Prometheus Pellets

Post by OverUnderPump » Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:39 pm

Hi,

Has anyone used these pellets ? What's the performance like and which rifles were they used on ?
How do the much touted ballistic properties hold up in the field ?

Got one box (for my collection) but wont use them as the plastic skirts leave 'shavings' in the bore and are a pain to clean.

Since the head is made of steel, the penetration would be a lot more than a normal lead alloy pellet but could consequently be more dangerous if you do not have a very safe backstop.

There is also the outside chance that if there is a goof up in the manufacture of the plastic body (the driving band is plastic), then the steel head would come in touch with the bore and damage the rifling.

These and the Dynamic range of pellets are designed and manufactured by Hugh Earl - a Keralite who's parents moved to the U.K. many moons back.

Mack The Knife,
For what purpose these Prometheus pellets made? Please enlighten me on this. I have an unused box of 100 lying(5.5mm) with me from last 15 years and have a Diana 48/52 air rifle to shoot it from but wouldn't as I don't know what to shoot at with it. I understand it's meant for deep penetration but on what? We do not have any tough skinned vermin here in India.

these pellets are good for hunting small animals ie rabbit rats etc.(if hunting is allowed)

or blowing up oranges etc for a fruitty salad. :) as some like to.

i would agree with Mack The Knife that bits of plastic hangs around the bore.

Right about the backstop as a must for safe shooting. with these pellets think safty first.
