Be happy mates, lets not be the skeptic Indians whining as always.
sid, i'm not entirely suffused with enthusiasm at the moment. and it's not a question of being sceptic. the correct word, is pragmatic.
the customs duty lifted off is great news indeed. but in all cases of importing air rifles in india indvidually, customs duty was the least of the roadblocks. when i brought my pro sport, the duty free limit was already 15,000 and i got away without paying a paisa.
the real brick walls are the pillocks in the post office and airport. if you import via post, you will still face the babu at the desk who dev and anupam tried to reason while trying to free jonah's air gun. if you get it via baggage, they'll still make you run through loops. that's when you land mind you, taking off can be equally stressful. as most of us who have carried airguns back home have realised, the very declaration of airgun in baggage sends off alarms, worried looks, ostracisation in lines and an hour and a half of paperwork. of course when you get down to shoot, it's all worth it.
so , i second abhijeet.....

[ss you are a rifle club member, and in all probability even then the first few chaps will have to show the notification to convince the chaps that it is indeed a duty free item now. News can take a long time to percolate through the ranks of bureaucracy... sometimes it is true ignorance, but mostly it's just them being difficult out of habit.
like every gun lover i welcome this move. thankfully we have a concession at last! maybe this is a start. who knows what might follow. at least i'll not have to carry cash with me when we land. but i'm not expecting the floodgates to open, yet. because even if it a duty free import, you still have to prove it's not a firearm
but, let it not dampen anybody's spirits. please do avail of this rare concession in our land of smash and grab. just do not throw caution to the winds
best of luck
