I had to tape my L eye shut-couldnt afford an occluder!
Pays to have a pair of eye cutters in the family for the more esoteric details ;)

Hello Seniors,
I am thankful to you for ur comments. I have been reading a lot on this forum n I cleaned n aligned my air rifle as per instructed. Now I am getting a better grouping. Here I am posting a pict. of my latest target in similar conditions (10m dist., 4m high).

Looks good buddy, I'm also on the same boat as you are. Keep plinking, and make sure you read up on breathing techniques as well in the offhand/standing position. That has helped me a great deal. I usually breathe in deep and exhale slow, during the slow exhale I hold my breath momentarily for 4-5 secs and take the shot. If something is not right I abort. It worked for me :) . Let me know if you came across anything else in terms of experience in maintaining stability in the offhand position(I dont mean written material, I mean a real life problem or solution that you figured out yourself). All the best buddy, keep shooting straight.

@Senor Jefe
The focus discussion that you had, did help me improve my focus(no pun intended) :)

Muchas Gracias Senor'

Thanks Dear overuberpump,
Ur words filled my heart with thousand hopes. I too enjoy plinking. It really hard to shoot at a paper. Most of the time I use things which reacts to my shots, like cans n bottles. I dont breath heavily while shooting rather I try to keep my self patient n calm (That was my principle goal when I started shooting). Most of the body movement stops including my breath. But I need some breathing tips, I will try ur advices.
thanks for ur comment

regards

If you guys have siddhi samadhi yoga around-go for a 10 day beginner course. while the religion and metaphysics angle are a part of curriculum, the breathing and meditation is awesome.been there, done that.
OUP and advitiyas-
i CANT and dont do this one :( but the ideal eye brain coordination, also includes-letting off the shot between two successive contractions of the heart!
Awesome level of ice in the veins ?? I have heard the same from 'ace'long range shooters in many professions and countries...
Advityas-
Nice group-an analysis would be:
you maintained same or similar sight picture-front sight SHARPLY in focus, nicely framed in the V and target slightly blurred-for the first few shots.
Looked good? so attention wandered a bit-unconsciously sight changed, stance changed, focus changed...probably you held the breath too long too-placed finger in a different spot on the trigger and used a different area of your trigger finger...
squeeze-off to the top right...thereafter-same mistake was repeated unconsciously/subliminally and the next couple of successive shots went to the same place-FLYERS!
try and keep as many factors fixed-same gun, same brand and weight of pellets, same position.try to use a sand bag and rest the gun initially.practice sight picture and squeeze-without cocking the airgun.get a better understanding of sight picture and 'butt-cheek weld' -no its not obscene in this context ;)
best and keep on doin it.
Axx
PS
lot of guys here who have done issf shooting here, you will get more specific stuff.what i outlined is anecdotal advice, part 'tips'-you'll keep on learning -about yourself and the rifle, as you go along.

Nothing is easy, now is it? ;) But don't loose heart, you've been pointed in the right direction by Mack The Knife and Asif - now you need to practice, practice, practice! No one becomes an ace shot overnight...

Cheers!

The 2nd target group posted above is a fairly good effort for a newbie by all means. Keep practiseing, and use some better quality pellets ( G smith or imported if you can find some ), results will improve further.

Hi all,
sorry to intrude, but i thought that a human eye can focus at one object at a time.....and the double focus what some of u suggest seems to be the 'peripheral vission'...like the fore sight and the back sight. when focussing on the Fsight it is the Bsight that remains in the peripheral vission and gives a complete picture in respect with the Target. again the target (eg at 10 m) remains a bit blurred due to short focus on Fsight. I may sound a bit involved but plese bear my expert comment!
cheers
