He was, arguably, the greatest expert on shooting the 1911A1 pistol. Also, a Professor of History, a war hero and a superb writer who founded the Gunsite Academy which has trained shooters in various disciplines for decades. In recent years many bought Guns and Ammo only to read his articles in it, as the magazine had fallen considerably in standard from it's heyday in the 1960s and 70s.

Sad news indeed - I`m one of those who used to read his Guns and Ammo articles in the `60s. Always interesting and often controversial.....more so in recent years perhaps. He`ll be missed.

He led a full and interesting life doing what he liked.And he passed away peacefully at a ripe full age.RIP Col.Cooper.
