Snowmobiling pictures

Post by axp817 » Mon Feb 04, 2008 3:10 am

My second snowmobiling trip in the last few years, in the White Mountain area in New Hampshire.

Snowmobiling is a lot of fun, and I'd recommend it to people living in or travelling to places that get a lot of snowfall.

I am in the white parka/red helmet.

It is a lot of fun, modern sleds have very powerful engines and can go upto a 150 (or more) miles an hour, although speed limits on trails are 45 mph, and most novice riders stay under it anyway.

All my snowmobiling trips have been day trips where you rent sleds for half a day or a full day, and stay on the local trail system which takes you through the woods, on inactive rail road tracks, bridges, through sparse neighborhoods, and along lakes.

You have to dress very warm, imagine riding a motorcycle in below freezing temperatures, but it is a lot of fun, especially when you do it in groups.

My next snowmobiling trip will probably be longer, you can do those up in Canada, where you ride a sled for a 100 miles or so everyday for a couple days, and travel from one place/town to another, and not just ride around on a trail system.

They have something similar up there in the summertime as well, instead of snowmobiles you travel on ATVs, also something I would love to do.

Good chance to see wildlife too, but when you are on a local trail system with sleds going back and forth all day, the animals prefer staying away from the noise.

Thanks for sharing .. I had one snow mobile guy jump over my car's hood, he popped out of a ditch in middle of night . But they are fun as long one is careful.

Have fun

wow, I've heard of riders hitting trees, going into lakes, and sliding off trails into ravines, but never of something like this.

You are right, Navdeep, one has to be very careful while riding a snowmobile, especially at higher speeds.

Its still a lot of fun though, as long as you stay safe.
