Well ya... couldn't be more right... but its still the grandson of the Webley, and largely similar.
Of course while I'm no big fan of W&S revolvers, I can't say anything bad about Webley's quality.

Vjha 55 - you are missing the point. I`m critical of the IOF because of their lack of innovation and quality control. As regards their original military designs they just don`t work - just check out the link to the article given by Navi above and the numerous threads related to this topic posted by members on this forum. My comments attempted to suggest a reason for IOFs failures and I am convinced that your governments stifling of private gun ownership and usage is a major contributor. This was not an anti-Indian rant, just an anti-IOF rant. Your comments typify the lassiez faire nationalistic attitude endemic amongst many Indians and is another major contributor to the failures of the Indian arms industry. As I`ve said before: If you put up with crap, you get crap.

Note also that I NOT saying that India is incapable of quality production and/or innovation: The Ishapore Enfield 7.62 proved that Indians could both copy and improve upon an established design - NO British SMLE No 1 MK III was capable of handling the pressures of the 7.62x51.......and as far as innovation is concerned just look at how justifiably succesful the Indian IT industry is.

You might also note that I am equally contemptuous of the British arms industry.

As regards the IOF .32 revolver; it IS a copy of the Enfield......which itself was a simplified and cheaper - generally inferior - variation of the Webley revolver. I happen to like the Webley......but I have no desire to own one. When all is said and done, the Webley is an antique design and there have been far superior designs since.
I suspect the Webleys continued popularity in India is a result of ignorance - again due to the stifling of gun ownership and usage in India. Many Indians know of the Webleys excellent reputation and consider it THE revolver to own.......they are just not aware that reputation is a century out of date and that revolver design has greatly progressed during the last 100 plus years.

If the choice is ONLY between IOF made stuff then go for the IOF revolver - it has fewer problems... buy the IOF pistol ONLY if you want a DIY project on your hand and are prepared to spend MORE money on it after the purchase to rectify all the inherent problems in the gun...

Hey I am totally new to the scene. I have just applied for the licence. I have seen all the posts over here.

The problem is there is lot of spamming, name calling leg pulling in the threads and the information provided is in bits and pieces.

Would it be possible for us to pull together all the information in single thread and deleting out unwanted posts from that thread.

My view as a layman is ... the very first weapon we would like to try should not be very expensive one, difficult to maintain etc. Also if due to family pressure or some other reason we have to leave this passion it should not pinch us. Even if you have a shoddy Amby and a Rolls standing at your gate guess you would like to learn initially in Ambi rather than Rolls.

Understand when ever a new guy like me is advised one of the main concern is of safety. Most of us might be family members with kids around. We always think of "Just In case..." scenario, which one would be better.

I have also been advised that if going for pistol we can go for chinese ones as they are better.

Again my request to Mods...Would it be possible for us to pull together all the information in single thread and deleting out unwanted posts from that thread.

Also let us know the modifications possible and things to keep in Mind.
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn’t drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, “It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.”
