cool.. and who would that be?? We have a list of firearms dealers.. but no list of "licensed gunsmith" when the time is right.. i shall post a new query..
First let me get the licence...then the gun... then shoot a bit then if i really need a 20" barrel I can always post something here..

...........I doubt any one would like to chop of the barrel even if he is a licenced gunsmith. All gun barrels have their barrels measurements taken at the time of testing by IOF.

B: Badshah - So long as you DO NOT have the barrel shortened to less than 20" AND the work is done by a licensed gunsmith, you are legally in the clear... Of course you would permanently loose any choke you had in your barrels and reduce the value of your gun, but then that's your call...

Well, for your price range (sub 20k), you'll only be able to get an Indian made SxS, double trigger shotgun (hammerless) OR if you get lucky you may just be able to get a good condition imported SxS hammer gun. In both cases the guns would be double trigger... be especially careful if you select a hammer gun as these are a century or more in age and are often well and truly bug**red by local (butcher) gunsmiths... make sure the condition is good and the gun is capable of shooting modern nitro powders...

Re: Wanted Short Barrel DBBL 12 gauge single trigger
An English hammer gun doesn`t have to be a hundred years old or more - hammer guns were built right up to WWII AND were sold in India.
How narrow is your `dickey` - by which I presume you mean the boot ?
As has been pointed out, most shotguns ( with the exception of most folders ) take down anyway so you only have to find the barrel length across your boot.
The barrel is easily removeable on most semi-autos and punp actions as well.
Single triggers - and ejectors - are problematical to make which is why those cheap Indian guns have neither. Both systems take a lot of time and effort in order to make them reliable - and safe.
Hammerless guns are cocked on opening ( or closing ) and ejectors are operated on opening. Hammer guns are manually cocked ( except in the rare instance of some English guns which are half-cocked on opening ) and are non-ejectors.......except for a couple of modern designs which are cocked on opening AND have ejectors ( and are very expensive ! )
British guns with single triggers very rarely have a single selective trigger as is found on most O/Us and both barrels are cocked on opening. With the majority of modern O/Us the first barrel is cocked on opening and the second is inertia operated - the recoil from firing the first barrel `cocks` the second. You can simulate this by giving the butt a hefty whack which will `cock` the second barrel - which can be useful if you need to `dry-fire` a gun ( something you should only do with snap caps inserted. )
As has been said, cutting the barrels will reduce the value of a gun considerably - and will remove the chokes. Both will make the gun pretty useless for clay shooting - or hunting if you ever get the chance. 20" will also make the gun illegal in most of Europe should you want to take it abroad.

As a matter of interest, why is this - and a few other questions recently - being asked in the `Information` forum instead of the relevent `Shotgun` classification.
Is everything going to be posted going to be posted in `Information` now ? That`ll make just about all the classifications irrelevent.........and will create an `Information` classification that is completely jammed-up.
