Combat shooting competitions

Hi,

Are there any other type of handgun shooting competitions in India besides the rifle association kind of comps? I mean when I go to my local range for practice there is only bulls eye kind of shooting going on and there is no way to practice shooting in combat situations. The closest you can fire at is 25 mtrs and I don't think in any real life situation I will be shooting at someone 25 mtrs away.

Don't we have the US kind of shooting comps? These are even fun to watch.

You mean IPSC type of matches? Nopes, nothing even close available here...

Exactly, and IDPA and USPSA kinds too. Basically anything apart from the boring target shooting we see at ranges.

What would it take to start something like this here?

..Tell u what,get all the permissions necessary for your land to conduct such a competition, then invite all the .45 packers and have a ball!

Depends on the location and/or the sensitivity of the adjoining areas. Shooting near reserved forests, military instalations, dams, power plants, etc. could get you into trouble.

If it's agricultural land make sure the adjoining farmers know or one of them will be on his cell phone to the PETA types grassing you up as a hunter. Best you speak to the head of the panchayat.

Do not shoot near or towards any type of road or path.

It would also be a good idea to inform the local coppers that you intend practising on your land.

It goes without saying that you will need very safe backstops.

Having said all that, I do not know if it is legal to practice with a firearm on your own land without the requisite permission.

So it's still not clear if legally one can shoot on his own land!

BTW, I did shoot on my land surround by a 10 feet high wall this weekend. It's a great feeling; a hundred times better than shooting at the range.
