good books on shikaar/ hunting

hello all,

i would like to recommend 2 books i bought a few years ago.

oxford anthology of indian wildlife vol 1 & 2.

Vol 1 brings together a wide-ranging selection of writings about hunting in the wilds of the Indian subcontinent, from the days of the Raj to present times. It shows why India was called the "Hunter's Paradise" and gives an insight into different hunting techniques, and the tribal and peasant hunters and trappers of princes and sahibs.
you can read accounts of rhino hunting in up and lion hunting in haryana.

vol2 consists of accounts of Indian wildlife from the days of the Raj to present times. It documents the change in attitudes to the animal world, with the focus shifting from conquest or slaughter towards conservation. It includes early and contemporary accounts of the wild which celebrate the joys of watching wildlife and detail the wealth of birds and beasts that make India so exceptional in terms of natural heritage.

both books make intresting reading.

can the members tell me their fav books/ authors that they recommend.

there are a quite a good number of books on wild life/shikar from Natraj Publishers Rajpur Road, Dehradoon.
i give below the list of books i have read and in my possession

Hey did u ppl watched -"The Ghost and the darkness" based on true story of Col. Patterson ,Remington,,,,Very good movie.worth watching it.

Yes I saw..Its an awesum movie, but the acctual shikar is totally diferent from what its been shown...and the Cats were deadly courageous too. lolzzzzzzzz

Not me ...but my dad did and I know things from his experience....I believe if you show that movie to sombdy who actually went for tiger shoot ...might help you to know the difference

man eaters of tsavo is availablefor free download in its original form wih the original pics. it is very intresting reading. even the topics and the pics not about the 'ghost' and 'darkness'
