knife advice
hi,
i am looking to buy a 3 -4 inch fixed blade knife. i have a budget of about USD 500, i was planning to buy one of the randall knives either Model 8 "Trout and Bird Knife" or Model 5 "4" Small Camp and Trail Knife"
http://www.randallknives.com/catalog.ph ... ories_id=1
but they have a 4 year waiting period !! if i book now i'll get it in 2012 !!
really cant wait that long.
searching the net has not really turned up anything in my price range. its either all below USD 200 or way above USD 500.
can some one please suggest some makes/models
thanks

Rajat,
While both your Randall choices are excellent, the 4 year wait is par for the course...
I think the fallkniven range deserves a good look-
F1, H1, TK1

Hi Rajat,
What is the application of the Knife you want to buy with a 20K budget (Which is very good) you could get a lot, say 3 to 4 good knives. Are you looking to collect as in pure collection then that's fine. The Buck knife collections sold in Mumbai are great and so are the Cold steel knives. I just got the leatherman Lockback knife K503X which is a great everyday carry or at least when you are outdors. This may not be a 'fine' knife that takes pride of place in a collection but its a good every day use tool. Would be glad to help you if you are looking for the combat/utility/everyday use type of knife. My choice would be the Cold steel Recon Tanto its a great knife.
Cheers!!

hi,
i am not really into collecting knives. i have a simple buck folder and now i just want a 3-4 inch fixed blade knife, something that can be easily carried. basically a "fine" knife that gives pride of ownership but is a good every day use tool as well.
the F1 in black micarta seems like a good choice. i wonder if fallkniven will make one in green micarta.

Re: knife advice
Knives that you use on a regular basis, have a tendency to disappear.Keep that in mind when you go out and buy something this expensive.

Re: knife advice
Rajat,
That's a very healthy budget but rather than spend the entire amount on a knife, I would advice you to spend US$ 200.00 on an Edge Pro Apex Kit 3. I have the Lansky knife sharpening kit but would advice you not to buy it as you are restricted to just four sharpening angles. That is not the case with the Edge Pro. See the video in the link below.
This would still leave you $300.00 to buy an excellent knife. Personally, I would buy a Fallkniven Idun for $180.00 or a Spyderco Bill Moran drop point for $65.00
Go with the Spyderco Bill Moran and save yourself a bundle. Remember, that the Idun has a convex edge and you wont be able to sharpen it on an Edge Pro.

Hi,
I am looking out for a pocket-knife that would cost me in the range of 100-150 USD. The utility primarily is self defense (just in case!) or sheer pride of possesson. ALso where can I get the same in Chennai / Mumbai? It needs to have a good grip & easily carried in pockets without a hassle.
Also how much would a good ninja & samurai sword cost me for sheer purpose of display & hence quality of blade can be compromised on?
